This is not an uncommon problem. You may notice this problem particularly if you haven't used hot water for a period of time. The hot water heater is probably working, but there is quite a bit of water that has to clear out of the lines before the hot from the heater reaches your appliance. I suspect that the water heater is doing its job, and that is the assumption I am going off of for my next statement. A recirculation system will work well to eliminate your problem. Again, assuming that the hot water heater is in proper working order. I would do my research on recirculation systems before buying one. Often times you get get a relatively inexpensive unit that will do the job for you.

Rinnai RL94i - Produces hot water for 3 minutes, then stops

I just had this exact problem. It kept getting worse until we had no water. Our Rinnai tankless hot water heater started the same way though, with hot water for a few minutes and then would shut off with an error code 10. We just had to shut the hot water off and then back on, wait a minute or so and we had hot water back for a few minutes. Our unit would come on with a loud vibrating noise and remain until it shut off with an error code 10 (air flow fault). The solution was to remove the blower fan and blow out the squirrel cage. Ours had moths in it. We also vacuumed out the fan housing. Be careful to mark any wires you disconnect and take pictures before removal. Our unit is now almost silent when it comes on and supplies endless hot water.

I have a Rinnai model R53-i-1. When hot is called for, heater turns on and produces a low to loud vibrating noise. It seems to change with water flow use at tap. I called Rinnai, got the name of local guy,...

A low to loud vibrating noise is an indication of an Air /Fuel imbalance . When you flow more water , does the noise become louder ? if so , have a service technician check for pproper incoming gas supply . The requirements are located on the left hand side of the Rinnai unit . There will be a minimum/maximum specification.
Another issue could be the burners being "dirty" and needing to be cleaned .
Also investigate the venting and make sure all joints are sealed properly and the venting is sloped correctly . If you have your installation manual , please refer to the venting section in regards to usage of a condensate collector . This can be a cause of noise .
There is a clear vinyl hose running from the bottom of the heat exchanger to the front of the gas valve . Please inspect this hose for any moisture or signs of staining . This can lead to issues with the gas valve . It must be determined where the moisture is coming from (See previous comment about Condensate collector !) .
The cold water solenoid valve usually has nothing to do with this type of noise .
As far as yourself being able to repair the unit ? I have no idea of your experience but a qualified licensed service technician should be used as this is a gas fired appliance and as such is subject to huge liabilities when being repaired .
Have them call Rinnai Tech Support while on site for any assistance needed.
You shouldn't have to "put upo " with any noise issues . The Rinnai ujnits run at 49 decibals (about the same level as a conversation .
Good Luck !

My Rinnai is only 3 years old and just recently it has been running out of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes long intervals. We have well water and I am wondering if that has something to do with it. Kind of...

The Rinnai relys on good water flow to fire it up. In saying that it runs out of water; thats actually not possible. The Rinnai just heats up water as it goes. Usually faults for installs on bore or well water is a problem with water flow. Causes are blocked filters or your water pump from the bore starting to fail. I would expect you to have a large filter somewhere on the water line from the well. Try and find it and clean it out. The Rinnai also has a filter. Its like a plastic round shaped nut just under the heater on the middle connection. Turn the water off first, it should almost unscrew by hand, take it out and clean it (make sure you don't drop the O ring on it). Also some tapware have water filters right in the end of the spout, check these too. After you tried all this focus on the pump. Make sure no ther water is flowing, try the hot tap and see if it works. Do the same but slowly turn on a cold tap, slowly increasing the flow. Have someone out by the heater and see if the heater shuts down at any point. If it does it could be the water pump at fault. From what you have told me and I am certain water flow is the culprit here. Really focus on anything that might lessen the flow before you start messing with the heater. Best of luck.

When in the shower, the heat fluctuates from hot to lukewarm over a 10 second cycle. The water will not stay at a constant temperature.

this is usually a problem with all tankless water heaters.
the solution is to install a small buffer tank (5 or 10 gallon electric water heater) after the Rinnai. this will give the water something to mix in. it will solve your problem.

did you make sure to use a 3/4" gas line to the unit. not just 3/4" at the unit itself. sometimes when there is not enough gas, the unit will act funny and cycle from hot to warm or even cold. Make sure you check the gas line size, its very important.

Loud noises

did you size the gas line properly? sometimes if the gas pipe isn't sized properly it will cause some pretty loud wistling noises. also if you have something in the fan like bugs or lots of dust it will cause alot of problems with noises

I need the manual for a Rinnai Infinity 26 hot water system

you can get it off the rinnai web site they have a spot on there to get the internet manuel,, but from what you are saying you may need to adjust the thermostat, or the temp, remember even though you will have endless hot water it still takes the smae amount of timed for the hot water to get to your faucet,, not only that make sure your shower heads aren't holding back to much water pressure, if you don't have enough water going thru the unit it will not stay lit, if will come on and go off, judt to dstisfy the unit,, make sure the filter is clear, on the cold side there is a cap screw if you take it off there is a screen in side you just pull it out and clean it and reinstal it,,

Hot water is cutting out after 2 - 3 minutes whilst showering

check the screen on the cold water intake on the cold side,, you might have to flush the system out, and do you have the shower head water restricter in, if not you may be using to much hot water,,, how many other hot water fixtures are running at the same time? try running just the shower,,,if this is a tank water heater the dip tube could be bad that is on the cold side it takes the cold water to the bottom of the tank and forces the hot water out,, if you ar only getting a couple of min of hot water and the dip tube is bad it is not going to the bottom but just at the top and not getting all the hot water you will need a plumber
