The magnetron may be OK, it could be as simple as a failed fuse or a high voltage diode or bridge.
Open the unit and if you have even a primitive multimeter you can check the diode and fuse: the diode will measure close to 0 Ohms, the fuse (remove from holder) will measure open, if bad.
The fuse will have a high amperage rating somewhere from 10-20 amperes; call appliance service companies or big hardware stores to find this. Buy two, so if one blows, you have a second on hand to use after possibly replacing the diode.
The diode may be tougher since a device with the necessary ratings of hundreds of volts and a dozen or so amperes aren't used in many devices.
Good luck-

The magnetron provides the heat and it is common for them to fail. You can get parts, manual, and more at repairclinic.com or partselect.com

My Sunbeam Microwave SGB8901 lights up and seems to be working, but it doesn't heat anything. Is this fixable?

Only 2 years old? Hopefully you still have owner's manual, troubleshooting section should help you look for the problem. Hopefully, there is a circuit breaker, or perhaps a fuse. I hope it was not used with a metal object accidentally. No help? Check with Sunbeam Customer service, be nice, they usually are helpful.

Sounds like the electronics overheated. You'd have to pull it and examine the insides to see what has gone bad. It could be pretty much anything.

Model 721.63259301 does not heat, everything else is ok. 5 years old, repair? Replace? Thank You Fred Liethen

My Kenmore 721.63259301 would not heat items up so I came here and saw the parts required and was just about to order them when I checked the online owners manual and found this. FULL FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY ON
THE MAGNETRON For five years from the date of purchase, if the
magnetron in this Kenmore microwave oven
fails due to a defect in material or workmanship,
Sears will repair it free of charge.
My microwave has a manufacture date of July 2009 so I will be taking it right to the closest Sears repair center for a free repair. I suggest everyone do the same.

I have a ge model JVM1850. It is 6yrs old. Today it suddenly did not heat a frozen small item thru. Does this sound repairable or do I need to consider replacement? It is above oven.

well!!!!!! its 6 years old,,,,my bet is the manatron has failed,,,and thats a pricy part to buy and have fitted,,,
you may find in the long run its cheeper to just buy a new microwave,,at least it would be a new one and not 6 years old! and not a patch up job

Kenmore Microwave model 721.80019 does not heat

Hi

When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. As there was power loss due to storm so I believe it could either be the the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board . To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assitance.

Thanks

Microwave not heating up food

This model is a lower-end type that probably didn't cost very much. Since it's over 2 years old, you have no warranty left. Most appliance repair shops charge extra $$ for servicing installed items in the home. You'd probably be better off purchasing a new comparable model. The labor fee alone might equal what you paid for it.

Won't heat

This is usually a shorted high voltage diode or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

You can order Samsung parts here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Some manufacturers will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. If nothing else, you can save about $75 by taking it to the shop yourself.

You can find your nearest Samsung-authorized service center here.

Kenmore Elite taking long time to heat items

This is most likely a failing magnetron.

If it's less than 5 years old, Sears/Kenmore should cover the part, but you would still have to pay for a service call.

If you or someone you know decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
