Question about HP Pavilion a1430n (ER900AA) PC Desktop
HP A1430N Moved my two working EIDE drives 250G over from my old HP machine and they will not boot.
They are shown in setup boot window. and work ok in the old HP.
The SATA drive has to be in th machinee for the boot bios to recognize the EIDE drives.
I am thinking of changing out the bios.
First, I _doubt_ that "changing out the BIOS" is the correct solution -- do *NOT* even try this.
Second, change the "boot-order" so that the new computer will _first_ try to boot from what was the 'C:' drive on the old computer, instead of trying to boot from the SATA drive.
Third, the version of Windows on that EIDE drive contains all the device-drivers that were appropriate for the hardware on the old computer.
Trying to load those device-drivers on the "new" computer will probably cause Windows to crash.
My recommendation: change the boot-order to "SATA-first",
disconnect the EIDE drives, and then reinstall Windows onto the SATA drive.
Then, reconnect the EIDE drives, to become 'D:' and/or 'E:' and/or 'F:' drives.

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem
IDE will try to boot first when pluged in, sata will not boot. I think there is a adjustment in the BIOS setting to have the SATA boot first
