Re: Mac compatibility

Have you used Disk Tools to see if the drive shows up there?

My mac wont read my external

Connect it to another computer, to see if the Seagate device works at all.

If not, then disassemble the enclosure, remove the disk-drive, purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it into the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Is the manufacturer's warranty still valid? If so, exercise the warranty, to get a replacement, at minimal cost to you.

I have purchased a Seagate free agent Goflex 500gb I want to run it with my Mac Pro note book it dose not work

For a MAC to use an external Hard drive, the hard drive has to be formatted FAT32 file system. That is the only file system MAC sees.

Installing 1tb External Hardrive from Freeagent onto Macbook Pro

I would be tempted to format the drive using the disk utility whch can be found under applications and then utilities once opened choose your drive in the left hand window and on the right hand side click on erase. If you are using the Seagate drive for the Mac only, format it as a Mac OS Extended (journaled) Choose your volume format and name and then erase. Hope this helps.

Trying to format for MAC

I had a similar issue and was able to work around it by partitioning the drive. See this site for information:

Overview: Open Disk Utility, Click on the Drive, Click Partition, Choose the number of partitions, and click Apply.

(It's written for video editors, but is applicable in your situation)

Let me know if this helps!

hi..there....i think if you can get e sata cable to connect between external and pc at you country is very bad news..but maybe you can get it in another store...last time when i visit bangkok thailand i'm very happy because i can get all componnet for pc..i buy a internal card reader that include the e sata connection is around 400 baht and the cable connector for it (power and data cable) is around 100 baht. so if you have friend at tahiland (bangkok) you may ask them to buy it for you and send it to your place....

Tryi8ng to install portable 120GB hard drive (seagate)

If your USB ports do not supply enough power (older computers) then the drive may fail to show up in My Computer.
The Seagate should have a special Y cable. There are two USB connectors on one end that must both plug into your computer - one for data and power - the other for power only. The other end of the cable has the mini USB which plugs into the Seagate.

FreeAgent Drive cannot be Modified?

The problem with the compatibility between your external drive and your mac is that freeagent drives are formatted in NTFS and the Mac uses FAT32. Mac's can read from NTFS drives but cannot write to them. I'm afraid that the only solution is to re-format the drive in FAT32 format if you want to be able to write to it.
