Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

I am guessing you have important information on the board. Goto your dealer and request the same HD, swap the boards over and then copy eveything to a back up.
Swap the board over again and now setup the new HD in the system

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Where can i buy a seagate external drive circuit board to replace one I "fried" by overvaulting my current one?

Spare PCBs aren't usually avaiable as such. Unless something simple like a polyfuse blew on the board, then the original is probably toast. Your next option would be to obtain an identical drive and perform a transplant. But it will have to be identical - possibly down to the software revision.: (You may still have problems as tables of bad blocks are maintained by the controller)

Mains short circuit fried drive

There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

My Western Digital Caviar WD1600BB 160 GB hard drive in my dvd recorder is making a clicking sound, how do I test to see if it is the heads that are faulty or the circuit board?

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. If you are hearing a loud ticking or high pitch noise on the hard drive it means that the hard drive will be defective anytime soon. If you can take out the hard drive and backup the files on you computer and replace the hard drive on the computer. Loud noise can be caused by a bad spindle or the hard drive or the hard drive is frying inside the dvd recorder.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks

It is worth a try. The circuit board of the SATA to USB interface inside the drive casing is definitely fried, but the drive itself could still be alive & usable.

Hello
Yes over voltage will fly the drive, at least the case and the circuit board inside. If your lucky the hard drive itself might still work, you can remove it from the case and connect it directly inside a computer or to another Case. if the drive doesn't work the control board in the bottom of the drive has fried as well.

To recover data you have to send it off to data recovery, or you might be able to use the circuit board from another same model hard drive to replace the faulty board, and it might work, but theres no guarantee.

only surefire solution is professional data recovery where they take the hard drive apart in a clean room environment, remove the discs from inside and put them on another hard drive, you can not do this at home since dust will get on top of the platter and its a goner shortly after that when you power it back on.

My WD3200AAJS will not spin up. I think the PC board is fried. where do i get a replacement for it. I need to get the information from the hard drive.

Just a suggestion;
I would buy another Western Digital WD3200AAJS, remove the circuit board, and install it in the one that needs it.

Copy off the needed info, then discard the drive. Install the circuit board back into the one it came out of, and have a good 320GB SATA Harddrive.

Hard drive not spinning up

Hi you would have to buy a replacement drive that works that is the same as the one you zapped and change over the board to see if you did any other damage to the drive motor or send it to a recovery person which would probably be cheaper in the long run.

I would look on ebay. A problem you might encounter is that all drives contain spots that can't be written to and each drive has these spots listed in the original circuit. So, if you use a board from another drive, you can imagine that it will be trying to read your drive like it would have read the original drive. You might want to research this more as I am remembering this info from research I did quite a while ago. My memory is a little foggy on it.

Samsung 160gig hard drive printed circuit board

try ebay with the same model number. You can transfer the circuit boards, retrieve the data, then you have a spare backup. Otherwise you can try to identify the component and check if digikey or mouser has a replacement. Sometimes if you're lucky the component is a bias diode that is designed to burn out with reversed power. Sometimes the visible damage may not be the only damage and other parts have fried. Touch a grounded object (like the case of your computer that's plugged in) before touching the components, and retouch it frequently, or wear static dissipative wrist strap
