How do I replace an ink tank? The manual did not come with the printer when it was given to me.

    All went well with replacing the yellow ink tank on the Canon IP 6600D printer until I tried to push the tank into place. It just doesn't quite go in. It's exactly the same size as the one I took out, without any trouble. I've lifted up the little gray handle that controls the narrow lid over the tanks, but this tank still
    doesn't go in. There a "push" sign, but I don't think I should have to push with all my might.

Issue

If an error message is displayed on the LCD, take the corresponding action described below.

Cause
The following ink may have run out. Replacing the ink tank is recommended. I think I put in a wrong colored toner cartridge. Pages printing in wrong colors. Can't find a list of the cartridges I should be using.


The make and type of cartridge is generally given in the users handbook/manual provided with the printer. If you do not have that ,you can log on to Canon web site and then go to support. Select your printer model and you can find the the specification of cartridge to be used with your printer. Resetting the Ink Counter When an ink tank is replaced, the ink counter must be reset. The low ink warning is only displayed properly if the ink counter is reset.

Message Prompting Confirmation of Ink Tank Replacement
If an ink tank is removed, the printer will output a message prompting you to confirm replacement of the ink tank at the start of the next print job.
When an ink tank has been replaced, follow the procedure below to reset the ink counter. The low ink warning is only displayed properly if the ink counter is reset.
Important
If infrared communication is performed in Windows XP or Windows 2000, the printer will not output the message asking for confirmation of ink tank replacement.
Reset the ink counter from the printer driver when you replace the ink tank.

1 Check the message, and click Yes.

Note
Mistakenly clicking No instead, will prevent the low ink warning from functioning properly. If this happens, be sure to open the driver's Properties dialog box and manually reset the ink tank counter in the Maintenance tab.


2 Select the replaced ink tank, and click OK.
The dialog box allows you to select the replaced ink tank.
When both black and color ink tanks have been replaced, select both Black and Color.
If you have not replaced the ink tank with a new one, click Cancel.

Ink cartridge problem


Solution: Snap in ink tanks properly MP500

Ink Tank Seated Properly Refer to the following steps to verify the ink tanks are seated correctly:
  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and press the Open button. (The paper output tray will open.)

  2. Lift the scanning unit (printer cover) completely. (The print head will move to the replacement position.)

  3. Open the inner cover.

    CAUTION:
    a. Do not try to manually move or stop the Print Head Holder.
    b. Do not touch any metal parts.


  4. Press down on the ink tank until a click is heard, thereby making sure the ink tank is seated properly.

    Note:
    Make sure that the ink tank is inserted in the slot that corresponds to the ink tank's color.



  5. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

    Note:
    Ink Tank Lamp
    You can check the status of each ink tank according to the way its lamp flashes.
    • - On: The printer is ready to print.
    • - Slow flashing (at about three second interval): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.
    • - Fast flashing (at about one second interval): Ink tank is empty, or the printer is not ready due to an error.
    • - Off: An error has occurred and the printer is not ready to print.
  6. Close the inner cover and the scanning unit (printer cover).

    Note:
    1. When closing the scanning unit (printer cover), be careful not to jam your finger.
    2. When starting printing next time, the print head cleaning launches automatically.

Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830


Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.
