2001 Scrambler 400. What should compression reading be?

With the decompressor active, nominal is 85 - 90 psi. At 62 psi, you have a top end problem. Try dumping a bit of oil in the cylinder and re-test. If the pressure rises, you have a ring seal problem. That sounds like an top end rebuild.

What is the correct resistance for the stator on a scrambler 400

try:
http://atvconnection.com/forums/polaris/348629-97-polaris-400-4x4-scrambler-no-spark.html

Also, for more general info, several you tube videos address this topic for motorcycles, but it is the same general concept. If you identify the wiring harness link between the stator and electrical system, the main issue is to test for all legs to be at about the same resistance and for all legs to be putting out about the same voltage at idle and at rpms. I have a 400 polaris sport 1998 2 stoke that i put a 4 stroke breather on it and it seems to be looseing power and hesitateing,i was wondering if there is a special breather and filter i need to use

yea it must be a loose breather ie a 2stroke one as the 4 stroke is woven tighter so it gives it less resistance the 2 stroke engine will be getting starved of air buddy one off a car does brilliant trust me there the most open you get

sadly enough there is alot to do to get to the bolts easily

take off pullstart not the front few bolts that hold the cord but the ones on the case behind those.

you will now see 2 bolts under the flywheel to the bottom those are the front starter bolts.

Take off clutch cover and clutches (may be able to get away with just the front clutch) and you will see the rear starter bolts.

2 stroke scrambler revs high on its own

there should be an idle screw on the carb, set it when the choke has come off. You'll recognise it because it will have a spring underneath it.
