Ive got a Compaq Presario 2200 notebook, the fan seems to be fine, it spins for a few seconds when the computer starts and starts spinning when the computer gets real hot i mean hot enough to fry an egg.
are there any settings I can adjust to change the temperature at which the fan kicks in?
Not really, since the fan is controlled ny a thermal sensor on the Motherboard. You may want to start by having the fan and heatsink assembly replaced.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!
