Cuisinart Grind & Brew not using all the water in the reservoir

My Cuisinart Grind & Brew is not using all the water I fill in the water reservoir. It is only making 4 to 5 cups of coffee and there is water left in the water reservoir. How do I fix this?

Same problem - only sending two cups (at the most) through. Then stops. Have used the vinegar clean technique, still no luck. It turns itself off, starts beeping that it is finished.

I have the same problem. The water is still in the reservoir and it is not done brewing, but claims it is by shutting off. I love this coffee maker, but this new problem is driving me insane!

  • filhashope Mar 24, 2008

We fill the reservoir to 10 cups and it only brews 2-4 cups (even though the 1-4 cup program is off). This has happended repeatedly even though we have cleaned it really good, repleaced the water filter, etc. Any clues? It's about 1 year old.

Same Problem....I am sending it back....hopefully it will come back right.

We had the coffee maker over a year when this problem first occurred, and it went away after replacing the filter. Now even a filter replacement doesn't solve it. Has anyone tried running vinegar through the system to clean it out? Does Cuisinart have any advice?

mine is new and will not brew

It would be nice if Cuisinart would own up to this problem and fix it.  In the meantime we've sort of gotten used to it, by doing it twice every morning: the first to grind and brew, and when that's (prematurely) done, we do it again with the "1-4 Cup" and "Grind Off" settings on.  Somewhat of a bother, but it gets the job done.

We have ot hit 1-4 cup 3 or 4 times to get the coffee and we did just add a new filter

I have had two Cuisinart coffee makers with the problem of not brewing all the way through. Cuisinart has a design glitch that should be addressed.

  • barryend Feb 13, 2009

Me too. Unplugging it over night helps. Mine is 4 years old. I have had 3 Cuisinart Grind & brew machines. They all get flaky after a while. Micro-processor locks up I venture. I emailed Customer service. Maybe a separate grinder and regular coffee maker is my next move.

I was having problems like this and then I read on a different string on this website that people have had success by flushing the system numerous times (sometimes up to six times) with vinegar. I took out the charcoal filter and flushed once with vinegar but only saw a small amount of improvement. I was out of vinegar so I used Lemishine mixed with water and it went from making one cup to making a full pot with one flush.

I used a coffee cleaning solution ( Mr.coffee , I think) then I ran a 4 cup vinegar/2 cup water solution through, then two water cycles and it cleared up - we'll see how long it lasts, but I'm glad it seems to have cleared up!

Same problem . Sent my first machine back (less than 1 year old, you pay shipping and handling both ends) and now after 4 months, same issue. Not sure what to do.

We have the same problem. the only fix we've found is if you want to brew a full pot, put in appropriate amount of water and beans but push the 1-4 cup setting and if you want 1-4 cups, use as if grinding a full pot.

Doesn't always brew all the water, stops early

All coffee makers do this over time from calcium, lime, and mineral deposits building up inside the tubes and heating coil. Fill the reservoir with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar and run a normal brew cycle, turning it off and on if necessary to completely empty the reservoir. Repeat this 2 or 3 times with fresh mixture of vinegar and water until it brews the reservoir empty without the need to cycle the power. Follow this procedure with plain water 2 or 3 times to clean the vinegar out. This should get it working like new again. It's best to use distilled water for brewing coffee as distilled water does not have the minerals that regular tap water has and therefore will not clog up the machine.

My 12 Cup grind and brew coffee maker needs a good cleaning. How do I do it?

To clean the inside of the coffee maker, fill the reservoir with water as you would to prepare coffee, except add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the reservoir. Place a clean filter in the basket and run the solution through. When it is complete turn off the unit and let it cool for 2 minutes and then pour the hot solution back into the reservoir for a second run, you can reuse the filter that you placed in it the first time. After it is finished this second time, turn off the unit for 2 minutes and pour the used solution down they kitchen sink. Allow the carafe to cool for a couple of minutes and fill with cold water and run it through as you did the solution, but put a clean filter in this time. Repeat this one more time to remove the vinegar solution and discard the used filters. Once the carafe is cooled fill it about 1/3 full of water, add several ice cubes and 1 tablespoon of baking soda swirl this around in the carafe for a minute or so. Rinse the carafe and run it and the basket through a cycle in the dishwasher or wash by hand with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and you're done. Good luck.

This coffee maker (10 c maker with grinder) beeps it's done every few minutes with water left. we have to brew about 5 times for a full pot, what gives?

Presume this is the Grind & Brew Thermal™ 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Model # DGB-600BCC

An instruction booklet is available here: http://www.cuisinart.ca/pdf/ibs/en/DGB-600BCC_en.pdf

Review the sections beginning on page 11 of the pdf on Turning Off the Grind Function (if not using the grind feature) and Making Coffee.

Make sure you are turning off the grind function if using preground coffee and that the reservoir lid is securely closed.

Check the Cups Setting button; is sounds like the 1-4 feature may be turned on.

Cuisinart Grind and Brew will not emply all the water

The two most common reasons for overflow or underflow have to do with the carafe lid and the filter basket - they key to smooth flow with this coffee maker is making sure the filter basket and carafe lid are making the proper contact with each other so that the center knob on the carafe lid pushes slightly up on the filter basket spring. Make sure the carafe lid is completely closed. Make sure the filter basket is pushed all the way down. Make sure you are not using the gold tone filter and a paper filter at the same time. For some reason, I get better results when the handle of the carafe is resting against the right side wall. If everything is in place, I would suspect a problem with either the filter basket being clogged or some problem with the carafe lid - call Cuisinart as they should be able to order these parts for you.

I have a cuisinart Grind and Brew with a glass carafe - not pictured above. The self clean button keeps lighting up and I don't know how to run the clean cycle.

Fill the water reservoir with 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 2 cups water - then press the self-clean button. If the water doesn't start going through after a minute or two, just turn the machine on like you were brewing coffee. After the vinegar/water soultion has gone through the machine, brew one cycle of plain water to flush out the vinegar. If the self-clean light stays on, just unplug the machine for longer than 20 minutes, and the light should not come back on when you replug the machine. Good luck!

Cuisinart grind and brew--water does not come down

If the water is not coming out of the filter basket, and is instead leaking over the edges, then replace the brew basket.

If there is no water at all, call Cuisinart - those coffee makers have a 3-year warranty.

Cuisinart Grind & Brew DGB-600 fills up water in goldtone filter;

Some fine-grain coffees are too fine for the Gold Tone Filter. If this is the case, remove the Gold tone Filter and use paper filters only. You may have to wash excess grinds out of the black filter basket, since there may be a few stuck in there now - don't take the filter basket apart - just rinse it out with water.

Also, don't use a paper filter and the gold tone filter at the same time.

Good luck!

Cuisinart grind and brew

This happens when the machine needs cleaned. Fill coffee maker with white vineger instead of water. Turn grind off, make sure empty pot is in place. Brew a pot of hot vineger. Repeat. Brew a pot of hot water. Repeat. This process removes mineral buildups inside machine. If you have access to filtered water, start using that to brew your coffee. I do and probably do this process 1 per 6 weeks.
