Question about RCA L32WD12 32 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

Has back light and partial video seperated by horizontal lines. Between the lines you can see snow and the other lines are a pinkish color. At first we had some bad caps in the power supply because lcd panel wouldn't power up. We did get half a pix at one point.

If you do get the backlights OK, then the next place to look will be the LCD panel driver board (T-CON), you will have to look at the board itself for the correct one for you TV. The worst case will be the panel itsef, very expensive. http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=RCA+L32WD12+&p=1

I have a slightly arched pink & green line accross the top of the screen.

I am wondering if we have the correct model number listed here? If so with the model listed either something is inside like a spider web or that model uses a optical light engine which "might" be able to do this if bad.

Horizontal lines and colored snow

HI,
There are three likely causes for horizontal lines on your plasma TV.

1) A bad incoming signal. Do you see the lines on every channel, and from every source? If you play a DVD or videotape and the lines are still there, then that rules out your cable television or satellite box if you have one. However, if you find that the lines disappear when you play a DVD, I would contact the support desk for your cable or satellite provider.

2) A burn-in. This is caused by things like excessive use of video games or watching TV programs that have static (unchanging elements) like icons or scores or even lines. Have you tried using the built-in burn-in cleanup utility that is part of most Samsung plasma sets? Even if you suspect that the problem is not caused by burn-in i would recommend you try this just to see if it has an effect.

3) A problem with the electronics. Here you have to asnwer the following: is your set still under warranty? Most plasmas come with a one- or two-year warranty. If you paid for the set with certain types of credit cards, your warranty may be extended by a year or so: call your credit card.

If the set is still under warranty, immediately arrange for a repair and keep a record of all dates, names, phone numbers, and promises made. Don't accept any statement that five horizontal lines is "acceptable" to the maker; a pixel here or there may be excused but not a serious problem like yours.

Finally, if your set is NOT under warranty, consider carefully whether to make a repair or buy a new set. New set prices have dropped sharply, and the difference between a repair and a new set may not be significant. Of course, you can wait until the set fails.

thank you,
vijay

After TV turned on for 2-3 hours the colors begin to change

The light engine is going bad. To be specific the color wheel is wearing out and cannot be replaced seperately as it's part of the light engine. Mitsubishi extended the warranty on the light engine for an additional two years. You need to contact a local Mit's authorized service center to see if yours is still covered. Better hope so as the light engine is expensive.

Picture Problems: Snow, color, lines

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Horizontal snow lines on record and playback

the symptom is caused by a dirty video head. sometimes cleaning tape cannot do all the jobs, especially when the dirt is so much that any cleaning tape cannot remove it. open the cover, use a clean white paper dampened with a little alcohol. use your finger on the paper and gradually move the head drum back and forth. donot move the paper up or down. just move the drum slowly. good luck!
