Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer

Will not print status page from printer.

My printer stopped printing. I have reinstalled software, tried Parallel cables, as well as USB. I know the fix for the drum and toner, neither one. Have reset by holding the GO button as I turn it on. When I unhook it from the comuter, and press the GO button 5 times quickly the Ready light starts flashing and thats all that happens.

Normally press the go button all lights will go on one by one then release and quickly press go again this usually prints a demo or status page.

My Printer is not printing although the printer status is online. How do I fix it?


If you tell it to print and the item goes into your Que for printing. In that screen click on the printer tab... In the drop down verify that the "Use Printer OffLine" does NOT have a check mark next to it.

LexMark e321 printer is printing blank pages. I changed out the ink toner, reinstalled the driver from the E321 disk, changed the USB cable and still get 2 blank pages and the LED button by error is...


Try to disconnect all cables from the printer and leave it off for about 30 seconds to clear the print job. Turn the printer back on and check the status lights, error light stop blinking then try connecting the printer back to the computer and try printing again.

Since you try to uninstall and reinstall the printer software, do you set up again the printer and try to print again the test page.

Most printer if it is not responding is it due to connection error like cable set up, port driver set up or the configuration of the printer or the print spooler had stop.

Please try hard reset of the printer.

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Open the top cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges.
  3. Close the top cover of the printer.
  4. Press the power button on the printer to turn the printer off.
  5. Disconnect the communications, (USB or Parallel), cable from the back of the printer.
  6. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for one minute.
  7. Reconnect the communications cable to the printer.
  8. Reconnect the power cable to the printer.
  9. Press the printer power button to turn the printer on.
  10. Open the top cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
  11. Close the top cover and print the calibration page.
  12. Restart the computer.

I have a Canon BJC 80 InkJet Printer. I have it connected to my laptop using a parallel USB cable. The problem I'm having is that whenever I try to print anything, it will sit there for about 5 minutes...


I could be wrong but it sounds like a communication error between your laptop and the printer, I would check that your Canon is compatible with being connected via a USB to parallel cable. If you're running a network you could install the printer onto a PC that has a parallel connection output and then share the printer. More info can be found at this link.

Clear pause printing
  1. From the Windows Desktop, select Start , Settings , and Printers .
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet printer icon that is being used.
  3. Select the Work Offline or Pause Printing option (if enabled) to remove the check.
  4. Print the document again.
Establish parallel connection
  1. Turn off the printer or remove the printer from the network.
  2. Connect the printer to the PC using a parallel cable.
  3. Power on the printer.
  4. Print the document again. NOTE: If the User Intervention Required message reappears, disable or remove any HP LaserJet software utilities loaded on the system (for example, Status Window, HP Toolbox, etc.). Prove printer functionality and troubleshoot communications; try printing again.
Uninstall and reinstall the driver After performing a cold reset on a product installed with USB, a higher DOT4_00x port is created, causing the printer to hang while printing. NOTE: This is required with products installed on a USB port only.
  1. Uninstall the USB printer driver.
  2. Remove the HP folder and AIO folder from the hard drive.
  3. Reinstall the USB printer driver.
CAUSE: This error can occur if when using a network or printing from a laptop. When the print job goes into a pending status, the printer is either in Work Offline or Pause Printing mode. Hope this helps. Please rate my response.

The issue may be resolved by clearing the pause printing in the printer driver or by setting up a parallel connection with the computer. Clear pause printing

Message on the monitor is as follows:


If you haven't already done it, the first thing you should do will be to turn off both the computer and the printer, then restart both.

Next, clear out the Print Que. Once the first print job stalls out, it creats a road block that will not let any subsequent print jobs print.

After clearing the print que, got to START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS AND FAXES and find your printer. Right click on your printer then click on Properties. When the properties window opens up, look at the bottom of the General Tab and click on Print Test Page. If the Test Page prints out, try printing from your software program (Word, Excel, Word Perfect, etc).

If the Test Page does not print out, or it does and you still can't print from the software program, then clear the print que again and restart both the computer and the printer again.

I am going to assume that this is either a Parallel Port or USB printer, in which case you might try unplugging the cable (USB or Parallel) from both the printer and the computer, then plugging it back in at both ends.

If that does not work, try replacing the cable and see what happens.

If replacing the cable does not solve the problem, you will most likely need to reinstall the printer, or just the print driver depending on what type of software came with the printer. Once you have reinstalled the printer, try printing a test page again and then printing from your word processor or what-ever.

One of those steps should take care of the problem, if not, then you may have a hardware (or firmware) ware issue, in which case you will more than likely have to have it serviced by PC or Printer Technician. If that is the case, depending on the quality of the printer itself, it might be more cost efficient just to replace the printer.

Check cable is secure from pc to printer

Check printer can print a status page via printer keypad and is online/ready

If these are ok then it is a print driver issue

Turn off printer, Unplug usb, delete and reinstall print driver
