Its simple, loose the system, unscrew the Drive, behinde you will see two kinds of wire connected to the drive. One is Powering while the other is called IDE cable, it connects the Drive to the motherboard. You might probably see a thrid wire that is small; it connects Audio from drive to the motherboard.

Remove the power from the old Drive and put in the new one, like wise the IDE cable. As for the IDE cable, you need to insert the right part, the center of the IDE cable does not have a hole and the center of the Drive does not have pin. So you need to check both of them very well to make sure they are fixed appropriately.

They you can power your computer and get started. And make sure you crosscheck after fixing to be sure it is well connected.

I wish you the best.

I have a defective HP dvd 740 CD-Rw Drive model CGA-4166B. What model is compatable for replacement. I have a Presario SR1630NX. Thanks

Hi, Dwight.
I looked around, and I found that you can replace your cd burner drive with a dvd burner drive.

The best one that will go into your machine is a Pioneer DVD-RW DL.
It is a standard IDE/PATA drive, made for the older model computers like this one.

Pioneer DVD-RW Dl model DVR-118L

This is the same drive I have in my computer, as I have an old Dell computer, and the newer SATA type drives will not work in it.

It was fairly inexpensive, I think I only had to pay about $40 for it, and all you have to do is pull the old drive out, and plug the new one in the same way the old one is attached.

Make sure that if it has those easy drive rails on the old drive, that you take them off and replace them onto the new drive.
This will make installation alot easier.

You can buy the drive at Fry's, Best Buy, and CompUSA.

These stores still carry this model, but with technology advancing the way it does, they might not carry them much longer.

I hope this helps you out.

Good luck to you, and have a good day.

My dvd c drive is not workin wat can do for downloadin n how to install dvd cd-rw drive

Go to my computer and make sure that the combo drive is showing up. If it is then you may have to set the region to region 1 if you live in the US this is a common issue with most drives being installed. Make sure that the region is set. Then you will be able to use it. I had the same problem until I set the region on it then it worked. How to do this?
Go to My Computer right click go to properties then select devices. Look for your combo drive then right click on it and select region set it to the area that you are in. Windows 7
Go to My Computer right click and go to properties then select device again look for your CDROM devices select the one in question and right click and set the properties look for region set this to region 1 or the area you are in XP.
With all that said and done. If you device is not located power off the computer. Unplug computer from the wall push the power button for about 2-3 seconds then remove the case and unplug the device cable and power plug on the drive only. Now restart the computer again with the CDROM unplugged wait for the computer to settle in then shut it down again. Do the same thing push the power button in again with it unplugged plug in the cable and power plug to the CDROM back in now plug in the computer and restart the computer. You should see a hardware update that is updating your CDROM combo drive showing. I hope this assisted you. John

How to reomve a faulty CD/DVD drive from the Acer Aspire 5510 to enable replacement.

Hello
With a number of software manufacturers using DVDs to distribute their software releases, having a Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM Drive is not only convenient but is practically essential to keep up with software releases. Unfortunately, if your laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, installing one isn't quite as simple as it would be if you were installing the drive into a desktop computer. This doesn't mean that installing a laptop DVD drive is difficult, provided you purchase one that is compatible with your laptop. 1. Check to ensure compatibility between your laptop and the Acer Aspire 5510 CD-RW Drive you purchase. The best ways to do this are to purchase your DVD drive directly from your laptop manufacturer, look for compatibility information on the drive's packaging or ask a knowledgeable sales associate. If buying online, make sure to read all of the drive's profile to check for compatibility information. 2. Remove the Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM CD-RW Combo Drive that your laptop currently has. Flip the laptop over, setting it on a sturdy surface with the side that the existing drive is on facing you. Depending on how the laptop is designed, you should find 1-to-3 screws holding the drive in place; these screws may be on the bottom of the laptop or on the side next to the drive. Unscrew the screws and set them aside for later use. 3. Flip the laptop back over. Carefully remove the old drive, pulling gently yet firmly if you encounter resistance/ This will be the drive unplugging from the laptop's drive interface, so a small amount of resistance is not unusual. Once the drive is free of the laptop, set it aside. 4. Slide the new Acer Aspire 5510 Combo Drive into the empty drive port. Make sure that you press it all the way in so that the drive will plug in to the drive interface. Once the drive is in completely, replace the screws to secure the drive. 5. Boot up your laptop. Your operating system will detect new hardware and will load temporary drivers for the DVD drive; insert the driver disc that came with the drive to install the manufacturer's drivers in order to get optimal use out of your new Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM CD-RW Combo Drive.
Hope this helps, if so do rate the solution Good Luck

I have a Medion 2310 Notebook which has a faulty CD/RW DVD ROM and I want to replace it. Can anybody give me the step by step instructions or other help suggestions to solve this problem?

Well,I'm not familiar with that model, but they all come apart pretty much the same. Remove the battery & make sure the laptop is unplugged. Usuall the bezel under the screen is removable & pops off with a small flat screwdriver. Remove the screws for the keyboard. The keyboard should slide out of the way enough without disconnecting it. Remove any shield that may be covering the drive. Remove any retaining screws holding the drive in. Sometimes there's 1 or 2 screws that go in from the bottom. Slide the old drive out. Swap over any adapter or brackets from the old drive to the new one. Slide the new drive in & reverse what you did to get it apart. Put the battery in & plug the a/c adapter in just to be sure. Turn the laptop on & bios should automatically see the new drive & window's will install it when it boots.

Hi,

there is a possibility that you may have pulled off the power switch, to motherboard Connector.
This will be at the bottom right hand-side of the Motherboard.
You should have a 2 cable connector for. pwr/sw Power Switch. hdd/led Hard-Drive led. rst/sw reset Switch.
Check those First. if you didn,t remove the power lead, before attempting any work. you may have arced a current, and damaged the motherboard Or PSU. check the Fuse In The Actual plug lead. to determine the actual power Switch, without a multi-meter. remove the power lead, from the Computer. remove the power/sw connector From motherboard, And Bridge the power/sw with A plastic jumper Block. then replace power lead, and should boot up. If it does the fault is the actual power switch faulty.

Any laptop cdrom, cd/rw, dvdrom, dvd/rw, or cd/rw-dvd combo will fit in you laptop. All you have to do is remove the mounting hardware from the old one, and place on the new one. They are pretty easy to remove from the laptop, as there is only one screw from the bottom that holds them in.

External USB DVD-RW

Hi Nick,
this may be a driver conflict issue, either with your factory fitted drive.
try going into system/device manager and see if its in there, click remove or uninstall, reboot and plug the drive in again, go through the add new hardware wizard if need be.
the other suggestion, is to remove all USB devices from The device manager, reboot and the system will re-install the USB port drivers.
