If you don't have the proper equipment, you'll need to hire someone to do it for you. Most reputable video professionals will transfer them for a reasonable fee per tape/hour - but will not transfer "commercial" tapes that have copyrights (myself included). Send me an email if you want more info: ABreeze (at) nc.rr.com.

Yep, its a bummer alright - but that's why I'm in business!

It depends on what exactly you want. If you just want a straight VHS to DVD copy with no editing done, I charge $20 per tape + return Priority Mail postage. This price includes the DVD, a DVD cover (like the commercial DVDs you buy in the stores) and a label for the DVD and cover.

The name of my business is Atlantic Breeze Post-Production. I edit videos for videographers and individuals to add graphics, sounds, transitions, etc.

Send me an email at ABreeze@nc.rr.com if you're interested in getting some transfers done and I'll send you the address to send the tapes to. Don't send any money with the tapes, I will send you an invoice from PayPal after I get through with the transfers.

I have a grundig gr1000(b) vhs/DVD combo. Is it possible to record from video cassette onto DVD? It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the instruction manual. Thanks for your help.

Yes! You can select to copy from VHS to DVD or DVD to VHS, set the VHS tape ready to play and press pause, then put a blank recordable DVD disk in and then select copy, the options for VHS to DVD or DVD to VHS can be selected and then it will copy, when the tape gets to the end it will turn off itself, if you want to stop earlier you will have to stop it! Hope this helps.

When inserting vhs tape, the player pulls the tape from inserted vhs

That is exactly what a typical M-Load mechanism is supposed to do. Once the VHS tape cassette is inserted, cassette housing cover will be flipped up and two arms will pull tape out of cassette housing to wrap tape around cylindrical spinning head housing that contains video heads and, if VHS HI-FI, audio heads as well. When stop or eject button is pressed, arms will retract and tape will wind back into cassette housing. What type of problem are you experiencing with unit? It may have nothing to do with M-load engaging tape around head cylinder.

How do you get to the head to clean it?

Google for CD/DVD cleaners and VHS cleaners. A CD/DVD cleaner is like a CD, but has a small built in brush that'll clean the laser head. A VHS cleaner is like a VHS cassette tape, but instead of magnetic tape, it's a cleansing tape.

There are many studios who might help you with service to convert the worn out tape after rectification to be converted - digitized/compressed.
Since this is a complex software you must try for the digital studio around your area.

You can use a dry or wet cleaning cassette for your VHS heads, this can help you to get a better image from your tapes but also check if the magnetic tape of your cassettes aren't too worn out.

How do i go about transfering vhs-c video from an

You have several options. But important one to understand is the limitations of a PIII computer like Armada e500. You may not have enough grunt to convert stuff, even after buying the necessary video capture devices which work on USB.

Also I am assuming you either have the jvc camcorder still available or atleast have a VHS-C to VHS adapter to play the tapes on a standard VHS tape player.

Unless you are having a lot tapes and need editing while converting, your better bet might be to go to one of the shops that convert these tapes on to DVD or a suitable flash drive which might work out cheaper and quicker.

The last time I did this thing (quality of my VHS-C tapes was bad) I bought a Samsung combined VHS Video / DVD recorder and used the dubbing feature to burn DVDs. Cost me about $150 a year ago. I was able to do some editing on the way as I was connected to the TV screen as well. Saved me the hassles of dealling with the PC type video capture devices and software.

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video

VCR

Hi dennis176,

Unfortunately, I am not aware of this kind of setup. This kind of solution would not be very efficient. For this to work there would need to be an insert to the VCR (similar to that which is used in a cassette player to convert CD audio) attached to a DVD player. Because you would require a device to play the DVD and send the video/audio to the insert (if it existed) it would actually be more efficient to simply connect the DVD player to the television. The reason inserts exist for cassette players is primarily that it prevents replacement of an entire car stereo system. This is not the case with a VCR. You may consider purchasing a DVD/VCR combo if you wish to maintain the ability to play VHS tapes. If you own a TV/VCR combo, your least expensive option would likely be to purchase a separate DVD player.

Thank you,
Jason,

Used a wet VHS cleaner and now my VCR doesn't work right. Help!!

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.
