I am definitely technically challenged. Couldn't figure out what I'm supposed to download... there were so many options

Canon MX700. Used to print just fine. had to disconnect to move. When reconnected it only sends a blank page through instead of printing my documents. I checked cables. Restarted both printer and computer. Last expert said something was corrupted and have to redownload driver. Can't figure out how to do that. Please explain everything in simple terms.

First off have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers? Are there any error lights on the printer at all? First go here download the latest drivers. Uninstall all older printer drivers/software. Then reinstall latest drivers that you downloaded. Just select your os from the pulldown box to download the correct drivers for your system:

If you need any further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,

Download and install all of them. For instructions on how to do that. Visit the same link. Click on support & service. Then click where it says frequently asked questions. Then click on How do I install using a downloaded driver? which will be the first link on the list. This will give you the instructions step by step.
    thank you,
    Lee

Error code 5100 on canon pixma mx700

5100 says the carriage is not moving all the way across the paper path. There could be grease or ink on the encoder strip, the clear strip behind the carriage. Or a small paper scrap inside stopping the carriage.

Error code 5100

5100 means either there is paper stopping the carriage from moving properly, or there is grease on the plastic strip behind the carriage. If you wipe off the grease with a Q-tip the error will go away.

Canon mx700 won't print displays error306

Open the top of the printer as if you were going to change the ink cartridge and push the cartridge to the left. Reach your hand inside and see if the paper from the jam is truly out of there. Sometimes when you pull the paper out the front or back from a paper jam there can still be something stuck inside that is gumming up the works.

Canon Pixma MX700 Scanner Problem

I was having the same problem, and thanks to the person who posted solution number two which simply highlighted the fact that the apparently software that came with the Canon Pixma MX700 unit is not compatible with Window Vista.

The reason I was confused is because the printer was working perfectly fine across the network, but when I went to scan my computer would tell me that it can't communicate with the scanner. I'm thinking ... "well since you can communicate with the printer, you should be able to communicate with the scanner, after all, they're the same device!"

As a workaround, I used a third party program to do the scan (in this case, Photoshop) and everything worked fine. If you have Photoshop, just go to file > import to start the scan. If you don't have Photoshop, I would think whatever program you are using for image editing may have the same functionality.

Hope that helps,
Brian
