Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

2 Answers

My FAV6800AW has unbalancing problem. I get a dc or UC code around the 12 minute mark in the spin cycle (also, all kinds of noise and sides bulging out). Machine stops leaving a pool of water and wet clothes. Similar to becca-m2012 post and tombeiter post. Repairman replace tub displacement sensor and I still have same problem. (1)What could be root problem? (2) How much more money will it cost to fix?

Hello rletner, It?s not the repair persons fault he is just not familiar with the machine and how to troubleshoot the issue. I?m an owner and familiar with the FAV6800A/FAV9800A failure issues. You have a clutch malfunction of the roller clutches in the clutch pulley assembly. The rollers clutches are dry/sticky. You may be able to clean up the One-Way roller clutches in the clutch pulley as I describe in this POST. Give it a read and see if you or someone you know has the basic mechanical skill sets to perform. It?s not to bad just a tight work area. This is a very common problem with FAV6800A and FAV9800A machines. DIY it and save big$. I think you are looking at $300 plus my best guess for a Clutch replacement. I would guess that your TDS replacement was around $125-$150 range. I?m at work and have to cut this reply off for now. Read the POST I link to and see what you think. It sounds like the tub swings caused by the clutch malfunction were very extreme. Was this before or after the repair tech replaced the TDS? You should pull the the front cover off and inspect for the leak source. Hope the violent tub swings did not damage the drain pump housing... maybe a drain hose leak. Lets take it one step at a time. Down load the Service Manual form this link; The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference. Let me know if I can help, I will offer phone support if needed no $. Click on my handel and read some of my solutions related to dc/UC errors, failed to spin, will not drain..... all related to a clutch malfunction. My old handel is dh1200s you will fine my post. Getting dc and uc codes. Took clutch apart and cleaned and checked spring as suggested. Everything in there is ok. I don't have an upper bearing just the 1 way bearing. There is a lot of wobble in the spin...

Is the wash tub rotating CW in the wash cycle (tumblers should rotate only)? You can release the washer top to observe. If so I feel there may be binding in what I call the Spinner support bearings you can see those at the end of my Clutch Fix post.

Are you taking dc/uc unballance error codes while in wash cycle or just during spin cycle?

I believe somewhere around series 12 and above the machine design went to the integrated lower tub bearing/One-Way roller clutch bearing.

Any sign of wash water contaminating the Clutch Pulley One-Way bearing (rust)?.........Rich

Neptune Washer Spin Cycle

If your FAV6800A or FAV9800A wash tub is banging around in Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle and your Control Board signals a dC or uC error code to the console I feel you have a Clutch malfunction. I feel the TDS is working as designed with the unblance error code shut down.
See my Clutch Fix post for more info related to dC and uC unbalance errors with the FAV6800A and FAV9800A TL’s and the repair action…….Rich

Washer does not finish cycle..it stops at spin and it displays a 'dc' code...what is this

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
dC code from the Service Manual = Distribute Clothes: The load is unbalanced, preventing high speed spin. Redistribute clothes.
Your wash tub is banging around during the spin cycle correct?
You can redistribute the wash basket load until the cows come home the issue will only continue to get worse. Maybe start throwing uC error codes to the console display for continuous unbalance error code.
Your FAV6800A or FAV9800A has a Clutch malfunction. It can be corrected if you are handy see this DIY fix Clutch Fix. post.

Spin Cycle has stopped at 13 minutes Code dc.

If your machine is a FAV6800A to FAV9800A here is the Service Manual.

If it one of those machines I suspect a possible clutch malfunction. See this post for what is involved to do clutch maintenance or replacement.

Do you have any error codes to the display if it a FAV6800A such as dC or uC unbalance codes. Is the wash tub banging around on Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle? ……Rich

Maytag neptune tl makes grinding sound and stops at 33 minutes in normal mode and at 24 minutes in quick wash mode

Hello djlampl,

With the lowest spin cycle setting I enter spin cycle in Quick Wash around the 21 minute mark. But first question is do you hear the grinding noise with the tumblers rotating during the wash/agitate cycle?

If you start a spin only cycle do you hear the grinding noise?

Does the washer error code out with an error code to the display? Codes such as dC, uC, Lr?, I assume the machine type is a FAV6800AW is that correct?

Any additional info will help in troubleshooting…..Rich

Assuming the machine type is a FAV6800A/FAV9800A here are some handy links;

Neptune won't advance from Rinse to SPIN

If the clutch fails the first thing noticed is a UC or DC error displayed and there is no drain or spin.

If you are seeing the above error and having a problem with spin and drain then the most likely cause of this is the clutch. The clutch fails to lock down the spinners and the basket is unable to go into spin and without a 90 RPM there is no drain.

Replace the clutch.

Uc code error

uc code means unbalanced condition. My research shows this as being an unbalanced load or a faulty control board.
Make sure your load is balanced, otherwise you may have to replace the control board.
