Question about Toshiba Satellite A135 Notebook

7 Answers

This device cannot start. (Code 10) could not load driver software

I have Toshiba Satellite A100-049 Model PSAARE-03G00JEN

My cd-rom drive suddenly stopped working and the icon has disappeared from my computer. I checked device manager and it has yellow exclamation mark on it. The device model is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N ATA Device

I have disabled, enabled but no luck. I took it back to John Lewis today and they unistalled the device but my computer cannot reinstall the driver. They told me to search Toshiba support and downlaod the driver as they think it is corrupt and will be fixed by downloading driver.
I have just spent 2 hours trying tolocate the driver but no luck and am fed up.
Please can anyone sort this out for me and tell me how to get my cd drive working again.
Many thanks

    Hi,

the info and model number on the bottom of laptop says

    A100-049 Model No PSAARE-03G00JEN

I have looked at the driver downloads for vista and they don't have a driver listed for the cdrom drive.

I have no idea how to resolve this now other than to send it back to Toshiba under the warranty. Unless anyone can help me!

    Much appreciated.

I have the same problem with optical drive, mfg by TSSTCORP TS-H652M ATA. I was told to go in the registry and delete the high and low filters for this device and that should correct the problem, except there are no filters to be found. Now what! Any suggestions?

I have had this problem in the past -- it is a hardware problem with the optical drive not a driver problem. I had the optical drive replaced under warranty last year and this fixed the problem.

This past week this problem reoccurred for me (thus my reason for looking for additional information about this drive model and finding your posts). My computer is still under extended warranty and I am getting the drive replaced again.

For me the problem has occurred after 13 months from new (or new drive).

I hope this info helps you.

Toshiba DVD ROM SD M1302 driver

If you are using Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, NT or XP, and have an ATAPI/IDE CD/DVD drive, there is no driver needed (see Toshiba statement I have posted below). Under no circumstances, if DVD is properly installed and functional, will you need ANY driver!

If your DVD drive is a SCSI drive, then it may need drivers specific to the SCSI card you have installed (see the specs/manual or website for your card). You may also need the Adaptec SCSI setup, available at this address:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppbyproduct.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=%2FTechnology%2FSCSI+Software&fromPage=driverindex

or use this address if you have a LOGIC based SCSI card or device:

http://www.lsilogic.com/

Now, if you meet the criteria for the first paragraph I wrote, and your PC does not load the driver automatically (after a reboot or two) then you have a PHYSICAL or HARDWARE problem. Either the DVD drive is improperly cabled, improperly installed or defective.

Those are all your options. See below, from Toshiba website
good luck

ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

Toshiba's CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives do not require any unique device drivers for Windows '95/'98/2000/XP/NT.
After installing your drive and re-booting, your system should recognize your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Win '95/'98/2000/XP/NT Operating Systems support all Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives natively.

DOS/Windows 3.x Device Drivers

This device driver is to be used with DOS/Windows 3.x operating systems. Do not use this driver with Windows '95, Windows '98, XP or Windows 2000 unless you are going to use your system in the REAL or MS-DOS Modes. Device drivers for Windows '95, Windows '98, Windows 2000, XP, OS/2, and NT operating systems are provided with the installation or setup software of each operating system.

DOS ATAPI Interface Driver
If you prefer using DOS click the link below to download a MS-DOS ATAPI interface driver.
atapi.exe

SCSI CD-ROM and DVD Drivers

SCSI interface drivers are written for the SCSI card you are using in your system, by the SCSI card manufacturer. They are not specific to your Toshiba drive and are not provided by Toshiba. If during installation Windows can not find the correct SCSI software driver for your SCSI card and you do not have the software driver that came with your SCSI card, contact your SCSI host adapter manufacturer.

Hi, the error code that you have on the CD/DVD drive is a known issue from Microsoft. The error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)".
Since you are using a Toshiba laptop; you can click on this link http://tinyurl.com/toshibadvd and click on the repair tool on the resolution. This is applicable on both Windows Xp and Vista and will delete the upper/lowerfilters on the registry.

In case that the error code still exist you need to manually delete the upper/lowerfilters under the registry by clicking on this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us . You need to go the "Run" screen then type in "regedit" and click OK or hit the enter key.

This will surely fix the error code that you have on the CD/DVD drive.

Thanks
