Question about RCA F36685 36" TV

1 Answer

My rca sdtv model 27v414t, the picture won't fit the screen, if it's formatted to 16:9 makes the picture a smaller square in the middle of the screen and the 4:3 makes it stretch all the way from top to bottom, so it's crazy stretched out. need help. thanks.

You are describing normal operation. I have a Samsung with the 4:3 screen aspect ratio and deal with the same issues. With a program that is broadcast as HD I have the "letter box" pic. since this is needed to amintain the 16:9 ratio it is formatted in. Some programs come up as only filling part of the screen & at times I find the zoom mode less objectional to view. Even if you have a wide screen set you still deal with programs that are not in the 16:9 format. Perhaps eventually all programming will be in a consistent format, but for now we just have to put up with it. The good news is that your TV is not defective.

How do I make my screen smaller to fit my tv screen?

Hi Sharon, on your remote there's probably all sorts of buttons like menu, guide, blah,blah...you get the picture(no pun intended ha)there is a format button too. Turn your tv on, press format and across the bottom of the screen it will display what "format you are in. Wide screen, crop, etc most of these models will tolerate what's called 1080 pixels. Keep pressing the format key until your desired "format" diplays (please don't be alarmed if your screen flickers a few times it's your computer and tv talking and readjusting the picture for you) You should be able to just exit and you will see all of the picture within the screen. Be well.

How to format the picture to fit the screen with a universal remote (the one we have is not a philips remote)

Hi there. It is a common problem with replacement remotes. Some features like the one you describe will not be available in this one.
A Philips replacement remote is the solution. Best of luck.

Picture ratio

Programs that are recorded in 16:9 format appear full screen on a 16:9 TV. A program recorded in a standard 4:3 format will either be stretched to fit the screen or have side bars to fill the screen area. In the case of HD channels, the black side bars are part of the picture which is being broadcasted.

Normal picture mode make the sharper picture quality but smaller screen apparance

If the broadcast is in 4:3 (square) then either you can have the black bars on the side, or the TV can stretch the image to fill the screen.
Nothing wrong with your set. The broadcast must be in 16:9 to fil the screen.

Picture to big, half the screen is cut off

First off did you get the right remote. I had this same problem and was not able to fix it because I had the wrong remote. You should have DSP mode on the remote near the select / ok button in the middle of the remote. The left and right arrows allow you to move through the different picture zoom / format settings. You will need to set yours to the 16/9 format to get it correct. I use the
RCA Universal Remote 5717P. Works great.

    Thanks.

RCA 32 in TV no picture no sound just a beeping noise TV power is on

The beeping sound is most likely the high voltage generator needing replacement. This is a fairly easy job if you have some tech support to discharge the picture tube. You can go to the following link and leave them an email with your model number and your symptom and they will email you back with the part you need and they provide free tech support with instant messageing so you can do the repair yourself. the HV generator takes about a half hr to replace and takes only the basic soldering ability. heres the link.

    Projects picture bigger than screen..

This must be a duplicate, and since I'm not sure which one you'll be checking back with: Go into the menu and select picture settings and then advanced picture settings. I'm not sure on that model that you can manually change the aspect ratio from zoom to 16:9 or 4:3 ect... But select Auto Format and the TV will pre-select the correct format for viewing..... Any questions just let me know. Bill
