Well, check BIOS to ensure they are enabled. Reinstall the drivers. If that should fail, then you have a USB controller failure and you will need to replace the board. If your machine is under warranty, call Dell to have the board swapped. It usually can be done next day, and takes about an hour.

HP s7700n - all USB ports have stopped working. Device Manager shows drivers are okay. I'm thinking the bridge chip on the motherboard has failed. Any other ideas?

Try to to refresh USB ports.

1. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager button.
4. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.

Please note, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

7. Shut down the computer.

CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected, instead of the Restart option.

8. Wait for 5 seconds and then restart the computer. When the computer restarts, a "Windows has detected new or added hardware" message window will open.

The above steps will refresh the USB ports.

Now connect the USB devices like mouse, video camera, your external usb hard disk...usb hubs...whatever you like and the drivers should install automatically.

Tip: It is always recommended to connect the main usb devices at the rear end usb port, as they require more power to initiate.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

I am having problems installing the printer drivers for the Epson 3880 on my PC. No USB 2.0 port will work. However, had no problem loading the drivers on the laptop.

Please make confirm that ur USB drivers are installed, you can check that through the device manager by following these steps:

Right click on My Computer then click on Properties then click on Hardware then click on Device Manager, here under Universal Serial Bus Controller check that all the drivers are installed properly...

Also make confirm that other device working properly on ur Laptop USB port.

If all these things working properly then there may be problem is with ur Printer.

USB

First of all, I recommend you to Uninstall the USB Devices from the Device Manager and reinstall the Chipset Drivers as per the instructions below :
Click on Start and then on Run.
Type devmgmt.msc in the Run Command box and click on OK.
This will open the Device Manager window.
In this, click on the + mark next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers which will display additional USB Entries.
Right click on each of the entry and select Uninstall.
Click on OK if you get any confirmation window. Repeate the same process untill there are no entries left under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in the Device Manager window.
We are done with uninstalling the USB Drivers from the Notebook.

Now, restart the Notebook and close any window which says 'Found new hardware'

Now, download and install the Chipset Driver in your Notebook from the link below :
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/8178/a08/infinst_autol.exe

Save the file in the Notebook and double click to install the Chipset Drivers.
However, if the issue with the USB Ports persists, I recommend you to check again with different devices to confirm if the issue is with the USB Ports of the Notebook itself.
If the Notebook doesnot recognize any of the USB Devices after installing the Chipset Drivers, you may need to get the USB Ports of the Notebook replaced or go with a PCMCIA USB Card.
Hope this helps....
