I am having problems with my cd player

I am unable to understand your problem clearly. Does it play 2 CDs and then stops reading the CDs or does it play only 2 specific Cds?
If it plays some Cds and not others, then it is possible that the lens has to be replaced. But before that, try cleaning the lens.
Use a good quality CD lens Cleaner CD.

Cannot play my portable audio device with Sony cdx c500x

It will only accept audio from the bus in conections when a multi changer is connected and selected.

This is how I connect my mp3 player to my sony.

Swap multichanger audio outputs at the rear of the stereo for my mp3 player, press source to select multichanger.

Remember as I said, if there is not a control cable connected to your multichanger it wont wotk!

MP3 files start skipping/popping after few minutes of playback

Sony say in the manual that if you record high bit-rate mp3's the sound may be intermittent. I feel this is due to the decoder having to move ALOT of bits around to play, try some makeing a disk with mixed rate mp3's on. e.g.) some 64Kbps, some 128, some 192, and some as high as you can get and see if there is any differ Luck
