This drive should have the jumper settings on the top of the drive. The attached web site has photos of the top of the drive - but do not clearly indicate which end the MASTER pins are on.

MASTER is the 2 pins on the end - it does not clearly indicate if it is near the power cable or the IDE cable.

Try the one side and boot up and watch the BIOS to see if the drive is recognized as the MASTER drive.

I want to know the Jumper settings (Master and Slave) for IBM Travelstar 15 GB Hard drive. I would be glad and thankful if you will solve this problem for me. Ari Kiviharju

This solution will reference the picture below:
To configure the drive in Master mode, no jumper setting is used (Figure A1).
To configure the drive in Slave mode, the jumper must be placed over the two vertical pins on the far right (Figure A2).
To configure the drive in Cable Select mode, the jumper must be placed over the two pins in the bottom row (Figure A3)

Want to install wd1200jb-75cra0 as slave drive in dell xps420 with vista operating system operating master drive. do i need a driver installed first before it will recognize the wd1200 as a slave?.

there is a jumper setting on the drive itself that determines master and slave. Look closely at it, there is always a diagram of the pins to connect or disconnect for master slave setup.

No longer needed with Sata drives...

How do you connect two hard drives to a computer?

1. For SATA, you just need a second SATA cable to plug it in and a power cable from the power supply.
2. For IDE, you will need a second IDE cable to plug the second hard drive, AND you will have to set both hard drives jumpers either to cable select or one Master and the other one Slave, based on which one you have the operating system.

I cannot determine if the Internal GH22 Super Mulit DVD Rewriter is in the slave, or master, position. When I installed the DVD, my D and E drives disappeared from the Computer and only the C Drive...

When you examine the rear of the GH22 drive, there's a small square block just to the left of where the ribbon cable connects to the drive.

You should see that there are three pairs of pins running from left to right. You should align the jumper block so that it connects or covers the two pins in the center to configure the DVD as a slave device.

When shipped from the factory, the jumper block is supposed to be covering up the rightmost pins ( indicating a master position). Chances are that the other device on this cable was also a Master device ( where your D and E drives were).

Good luck.

Dell 8100 Dimension will not find the Hard Drive or CD Rom

If the drives share the same IDE cable, try to replace the cable and make certain it is seated properly on the motherboard. Check for bent pins on either drive and on the motherboard IDE connector. Sometimes pins (especially near either end of the 2 rows of 20 pins) will bend under if they are not lined up with the IDE cable. Also check that nothing changed on the Jumper positions on the drives. They should be set to Master if both drives are single and Master (hard drive) and Slave (CDROM) if they share the same cable.

Master slave jumper settings on 250gb Maxline Plus II SATA

There are no master/slave settings on SATA drives because each drive has its own cable. The drive order is determined by what SATA port they are plugged into, or by the BIOS configuration.

I have a maxtor 90645d3 i need to make it my master drive...can u tell me the jumper settings plz

On the back of the drive you should see 3 groups of 2 pins. One probably already has the plastic jumper on it. They should be marked: m s cs. The m mis the master setting. s is slave & cs is cable select. Place the jumper onto the group of pins marked m & your drive is now set to master. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Installation of one touch mini 4

hello, if you are adding an extra hard drive for space make sure to change the teeny jumper to the proper pins next to the connection slots on the hard drive. the jumper makes your hard drive work as a slave (extra drive) or a master (main drive). if you have a main drive allready on your comp and you dont switch the jumper the slave position the computer will not recognize it becuase of the new hard drives jumper being in the master position or pin connector.
if your installing it as a 2nd master drive you need to use your extra hard drive slot on the mother board for this to work as a secound master then you need the jumper in the master pin slot. there is a small diagram on to the hard drive info label it looks like pins and it shows you where to locate or place the jumper for either master or slave.
for a slave drive once you have placed the jumper properly then you can instal it on the same cable with the main. look at the cable it will have a main and a slave small label printon the connector or if you prefer you can use the 2nd hard drive cable on the secound slot on the mother board turn on your comp if you are going for a extra hard drive the comp should recognize it if the jumper is properly placed. when your comp is running you can check by going into (computer) and it should be there as a new drive letter

after this you may need to format the drive for use. you right click on the hard drive letter and choose format drive

hope this helps good luck with your upgrade.
