Just to be sure, verify that it can be read in another computer.

If not, the U3 unit is probably faulty. It may be possible to recover it by reformatting and/or uninstalling the LaunchPad platform with the appropriate utilities.

http://u3.com/support/default.aspx

If the unit does work with another computer, you might have a problem with either the USB port or the USB drivers (those of the USB subsystem, not those of the Cruzer -- unless you're using Windows 98/ME, the Cruzer per se needs no driver whatsoever).

Try putting the USB device in a different USB port. If you are using a USB hub, move the device to a port that is on the computer.

If this does not work, reboot the comptuer and verify the USB Hubs within the Operating System is working...

Start - Run - compmgmt.msc (this starts Computer Management)

From Computer Management window - click on Device Manager on the left side. Look at the right side and verify the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" are working and there are no yellow question marks.

You can't convert a FireWire cable to a USB cable with just an adapter, or even with software.

Yes that’s it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don’t really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power.
The motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be “rebooted” also because something can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB ports should be back to recognizing all devices!
So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in. (VOILA)

My 2g iphone isnt being recongised by my laptop it says USB not recognised. The cable works with other Ipods and I can only charge the phone via electricity when its turned off. Pls help

to isolate if there's something wrong with the laptop, try to plug in other usb devices on all of the usb ports. if other devices works, then you need to reinstall Itunes on your computer and get the latest version. and of course, Iphones only work on USB 2.0 ports.
