Question about RCA L37WD12 37 in. LCD HDTV

2 Answers

I need to determine which part to replace to eliminate my ''flashing'' issues on model L37WD12YX1. Do I need to replace the power supply or some capacitors? The flashing happens when you power on the TV and it will not tune to digital stations, instead it flashes a blue field at the bottom with the statement ''one moment please''. Unplugging does not work. I suspect P/S safeguard features are not allowing the TV to power on fully. The issue is intermittent and occasionally the TV works perfectly. Lately, it has worked less frequently. It's hard to find RCA documentation to help me finish this repair.

Thanks again, Chu. That's the easier fix. When you say Main video board, I assume that Master means the same thing and that's what I need to change. I appreciate your suggestions.

I replaced the main video board as you suggested, but the flashing problem persists. I think it's likely to be the power supply as I had suspected. Any comments?

The power supply part number is: 272062 and is available for $116.39 from tritronicsinc.com with a core return refund of $30. This means that upon the return of the defective part, you will receive a $30 refund.

Hope this helps,
Dan

  • ABRsvcs Dec 10, 2009

The "one moment please" message is generally posted during a startup sequence. Had the backlight circuit been the problem, you would not have seen the message at all. At best you would have seen one quick message before the backlight system shutdown and that is it. It does not recover. The startup" message will continue to be displayed during the startup sequence. Since this set "recovers" somteimes, I would lean toward the power supply as it seems to not completely startup properly. This can be as simple as the 5V line not being clean or the "kicker" capacitors starting to fail. In any case, I would start with the power supply board as I indicated before.

How to troubleshoot Bestec ATX-1956D Power supply to determine if it is the power supply or another computer component..computer will not power up green light on power supply goes dim but does not flash...

The power supply is very inexpensive and can most likely be bought from any of your computer retailers, Amazon - Just make sure to confirm the right model type of power supply. BEST to have it tested before replacing it. To make sure that is the issue.. Many computer shops will test for free.

Our Sony TV, model # KV-32S15 will not turn on. Is there a reset button or something we can try? The power is working...it just wont come on at all.

Unfortunatly there is not much we can do. You can try the old unplug for an hour or so to see if something may re set, but that does not work much of the time. Most likely you have an issue with your power supply and it will need to be looked at by a qualified tech to determin what the board is that went bad. Your power may be coming on but if the voltage is not there it will not allow the set to come on. Could aslo be as simple as a bad lamp. Do you get any flashing codes? if so look this up in the manual or googls the flashing codes to determine what the issue may be. Although Google can't give you an exact cause it may get you close.

Have hp compaq d530 problems turning on. Wont boot, showing 1 green flash when power button is depressed & thats it!,,,,, ASSISTANCE!!!!!!! johnhall248@yahoo.com

That is most likely a bad power supply but it could also be a bad mainboard. You can find replacement power supplies for under $50 so try that first.

Power button blinks and then goes blank. the power on the computer was turned off immediately and the computer never powered down properly.

had the same problem, its actually an issue with the motherboard, but just to eliminate that possibility, just get your computer power supply (you will find this inside the tower) checked first by a qualified technician

My tv wont switch on its clicking and led is flashing?

Your power supply will most likely need to be replaced which is actually a common problem in new electronics. If you have a relay next to the power supply, you can check with a multi-tester or ohmmeter to determine if relay is faulty. Most likely faulty capacitor in the power supply

Will not power up and flashing red led

The power supply board may have failed, and or there is another board that has a short and must also be replaced. The boards are swapped out with known working boards to find out the ones that have failed.

These sets are not supported for service at the component level. The manufactures normally do not sell copies of detailed schematic diagrams for component level troubleshooting.

You can end up spending many hours trying to find failed components even if you were able to determine exactly the failed boards to start with. Then if you do find anything, chances are that you will not be able to purchase the parts unless they are of generic types.

I don't service this particular model, but they are very similar as far as the process of finding defective boards is concerned.

We swap out the bad boards using the process if elimination, then follow the set up procedures from the factory instructions that we have, and using their recommended calibration instruments.

What I can also tell you is that after the set is more than a year or two old, sometimes the replacement boards are no longer available. If the set is under warranty the customer gets a new set of the same or the closest possible model in the same brand name.

When out of warranty, if replacement boards are available the service cost is very expensive. Most of the time it is better to buy a new set when there is failure. If the set is more than a few years old there is a chance it will fail again.

OK changing the caps only resulted in proper filtering and voltage smoothing and did very little to solve your problem. Now what swollen caps are a sign of is an over voltage condition. what I would suggest because you may have a bad voltage regulator, is that you have to get a schematic and measure the voltage levels on the power supply to determine if they are correct or not. This will tell you if the regulator is bad or not. You do have a power supply problem you just have to determine where in the power supply. This can be done with the schematic and a voltmeter.
