I have a Dlink WBR2310 router and an older laptop Mac using OS10.28. I am having trouble connecting the MAC to the internet using the WEP password. This lap top was connected when I had a linksys router. I know thw $ sign trick, from the lynksys. Any suggestions? I can't switch to WPA.
If you don't put in the same wep key you won't be able to connect....take that S out..also not every device can connect to wpa ...use the same key if not able to connect reconfig the wireless settings change the key..,

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) require that you "register" the 'MAC' (not an Apple --> Media Acquisition Control) address of the network-adapter of your computer (or router) with the ISP,
before the ISP will allow your computer (or router) to be provisioned.
Your router has a different MAC-address than your computer.
So, your computer works with its "registered" MAC-address,
but your router cannot connect with its "unregistered" MAC-address.
Access the web-server inside the router, and click the 'Clone MAC-address' button, and restart the router.
Then, the router will send the MAC-address of your computer, rather than its own MAC-address, to your ISP.
reboot your modem(power it off for about 10-15 secs), reset your router. make sure your laptop is disconnected from the modem when doing this. Modem needs to catch router's ip address. Start your laptop and search wireless networks. look for your d-link router and connect. Now this is assuming you didn't firewall your router, which in tun you will need to enter your key to connect.
ok u cna access your router with folowing link http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 type username as "admin" and passsword as "admin" or blank then u can enter in router setup then go to wi fi security or wireless thern u see mac security then add your computwer mac address there in allow on which u want internet u can know mac adrsss with "ipconfig /all" type this command in command prompt then u can see that compuiter amc adres it is showing phisical adres it is in hexadecimal format like this 00:12:a2:56:d5:25
The IP address 192.168.0.1 you use with your browser is not to get into the Dlink WEB page, it is to get into the DLink router configuration, to set up the router and wireless security eg. network SSID, turn off SSID brocast, WEP/WAP encryption, MAC address filtering etc.
No need to install the dlink on the imac. All you need to do is connect the modem first the dlink. (Modem connected to Internet or WAN port of the dlink). Now if they are connected, your imac should be plugged in to port 1 of dlink, and your PC to port 2. That should do it.
