Re: getting lines in photos

Go to the canon web site they have an advisory out on this I just got mine back actually they kept my S1 IS and sent me a new S5 IS because "they did not have the part and wanted to expedite my repair"

Here is another site I found when I encountered my problem

I sent my camera in per Canons instructions, received an e-mail a few days later(1/9/08) confirming that they would repair it a few more days later (1/16/08)I received another e-mail confirming that it had been repaired and shipped. Today (1/17/08) I got it and to my very pleasant surprise the box contained a new S5 IS!!! I will be sending them a very nice THANK YOU for it after I post this.

PS: e-mail accepting repair 1/9/08
1/16/08 e-mail stating it shipped on 1/15/08,
received 1/17/08 via FED EX

Captured photos have horizontal lines on them but doesnt appear while capturing

A multicolor horizontal line may display on the camera LCD screen if there is glare on the subject being photographed. Avoid photographing very shiny surfaces that reflect excessive amount of light into the camera lens.
Follow each step below until the issue is resolved:
  1. Change the position of the camera by shooting at a different angle.
  2. Shoot in an environment with different lighting.
  3. Adjust the zoom level.
  4. If the issue still occurs, try resetting the Camera back to factory settings.
To reset the Camera, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK. (Menu-->Setup-->Setup 1-->Initialize-->OK)

If the issue persists, remove the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute and check if the Camera works normally. Please make sure that you turn ON the Camera before you reset it.

The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.

Horizontal Lines through the photo

Horizontal may not be due to the CCD sensor. It can be due to the lens itself. I swap lens from a non-working camera to replace the one with horizontal lines. I found out that I was able to get the camera to work to take great pictures.

Photos taken on zoom have white horizontal lines across them. Photos taken at normal zoom are OK.

It sounds like that the shutter cable inside lens is partially broken. It moves with the lens while it zooms, so it could loose contact while stretched - when you have zoomed the lens. Z750 and Z850 have this problem with shutter cable - it breaks. The white horizontal lines are because shutter doesn't work. I'm afraid the cable will brake soon and pictures will be too bright with white horizontal lines even at normal zoom. It is considered a hard repair - the shutter part or whole lens unit has to be changed. You can contact your local Casio service center and ask the price, but it will probably be very high. I work in a Casio service center and new lens for this camera costs about 250$. It's not a good idea to put on used lens or shutter, as it will brake again sometime - it's just a matter of time. I suggest you get another camera.

Hope this helps!
