Hello again. There are ways to fix this if some troubleshooting takes place. If you don't want to go through the above, or got no response, you can get a restore disc from your computer manufacturer. If the computer lights come on but the screen shows nothing, that does not mean the computer is dead.

I have questions that you may have to answer if what I write doesn't fix your problem, but be calm, because if you can answer the questions we can find the help you need to restore your system. I'll put the questions on the bottom and you can try basic things for now.
What I think you might have done is set your computer to not open your operating system. Try this:
When you turn on your computer after it has been off for awhile, writing should be rolling up the screen when you first turn the computer on. It goes quickly, so before you try this, find the Pause-break key on your computer. Each time you want to retry, you have to totally shut down and turn the computer on. (cold boot.)
When your computer turns on, start pressing the pause key so the writing slows down.
There should be some options given to you on the screen. Look for Enter Bios push F* or DEL (Delete). F keys are at the top of the key board. The second choice would be "change your boot sequence"
If you didn't see ny writing at all, you need to answer the questions below so we can tell you how to fix the problem. If you saw writing but not these exact words, try hitting F1, F2, Del, F8 and see if you get a response, or send us the choices you did get.
Try to go get into the bios menu, but if you can't see that after starting a few times, choose change boot order. You might also see an option for a an emergency restore, or "console." The system restore may not have bios settings, but do give it a try.
If you get into the BIOS menu, you have to get around using the arrow keys.Highlight the options to the left or use the tab system. Setups vary.
The one you want will probably say something about "CMOS." and usually is on the last tab or page.
Look for options that say something like load defaults or restore factory settings. Select fail safe if there is more than one option for restore.
Make sure you close and save when you exit.
If you were unable to do the above, but did get an option for changing the boot order there are two options. Choosing boot from the hard drive should open the operating system. Boot from a CD or floppy drive is best if you have an emergency disk.
if none of that worked, the questions below need to be answered in order to give you the specific fix for your computer.
Who makes your computer? eg Dell, gateway, HP?
what is the Operating System? eg, Windows,
What is the model of your computer? A number is good, the name is ok if you can't see the model number on the computer. Any info about the computer will help.
When you turn you computer on after it has been off for awhile, do you see a black screen with no light at all, or is there writing or with something like this > blinking? Sorry this is so long, please leave comments on the outcome.
