Question about Fujitsu MHV2040AH (HDF40000IAH) 40 GB Hard Drive
I just received it and connected it to my Windows XP desktop. Windows recognized it and installed it, but none of the icons in My Computer will indicates that it is there. I see it listed under "Safely Remove Hardware", but it does not display a drive for it so I can not get into it to read it.
You will need to format and partition the drive for use. Go into my computer and right click on the drive and select format. Windows will then partition the drive and format it to the file system your version of windows is using. After it is partitioned and formatted you should be able to read/write to it. If it still does not work then verify that the master/slave settings are correct if it is a ATA drive. If it is Serial ATA no change of settings is required.

Go into the device manager (start>rightclick my computer>manage>device manager) and check to see if there is a problem with it or you need to update the driver

Go to windows device manager listed in the control panel of windows 7 or under "system" in windows xp. At the top of the control panel is a group of small icons. Try clicking on the far right one which detects new devices. Then click underneath in the hardrive listing to see if windows detected it. I also use maxtor's maxblast 5.0 software to prep or clone a new drive. It's a free download. You install it and reboot. Then click on the icon for options.Visit us http://www.ezsystemrepairs.com/

I had the same problem here in New
Zealand. Navman would be recognized using USB.
I tried it with Windows Vista and
Windows XP. In the end, I connected to windows 7, it was immediately
recognized. I had the option to apply a few upgrades which I did.
After the upgrade, it now also works for
windows vista and windows XP
