Hi Fixya,
The OS is XP.
On an IBM Intellistation MPro model 6220-20u, I can't seem to loaded the Audio Driver. Opening up the Sound icon under Control Panel, I get ''No Audio Device''.
I tried the IBM support page for this model and have tried the setup.exe for the 981Z06US supposed driver for the Realtek AC'97 Audio driver and it seems to ''take'' but when I reboot, I still get ''No Audio Device''.
I don't know what to do at this stage.
Any suggestions?
-Thanks
I think you may have to get into the Bios and make sure it is turned on! this is a onboard sound componet. and there will be a switch to turn it on and off.you will get into the Bios by hitting the F1 or the F2 key when the machine hits post . Hope this helps!

Thanks boatin-4me.
I appreciate your response. It never occured to be that it could have been the BIOS. Alas, Sound WAS disabled and I enabled it-setting it to Auto. I thought that was all that was needed, but, it still did not work (in the same way-no driver, No Audio Device).
So I tried to load the driver again (after the BIOS was enabled) and got an error: "Tool for Driver Update has encountered an error and needs to close". "more info" indicated that the "cause" was an unhandled exception in the alcupd.exe module (which means nothing to me).
So that is where it stands.
Thanks for your help so far.
Thanks for your help. At this point I think that I understand why the sound driver cannot load on these Intellistation M Pro machines: they are connected to a domain under the control of Server 2003. It is the GPO's of the server that prevent the correct driver from loading. If I remove the PCs from the domain, I am convinced that the driver would load properly. The correct driver is the Realtek Semiconductor Corp Audio Driver version 5.10.0.5190 (see Readme.txt in the IBMDRIVERS\AUDIO folder).
At this point I will close out this thread.
-Thanks
