Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Maytag gas dryer that doesn't heat. I have removed the door panel and watched the dryer start. The ignitor glows but there is no clicking sound or flame that comes on. One expert on here mentioned that the therm disk is definantly bad. What is a therm disk, is the part of the radiant sensor? Does the whole radiant sensor need replacing? What do you think?

Can I ask where the thermocoupler is located? I have a couple different diagrams of my model and not sure what this piece is attached to. Does the solution proposed sound like the correct solution?

MAytag 2300 aww does not heat

If this is a gas dryer it may be the ignitor has failed. There should be a panel you can remove to inspect the burner compartment. Turn on the dryer and look for an orange glow if you don't see any glow the ignitor is probably faulty and should be replaced. If it is an electric dryer it may be a bad heating element. Hope this helps.

On my maytag model MDG6200AWW gas dryer. It doesnt heat up. I see wehre some people say the ignitor glows orange. Where is the ignitor and I don't see anything heating up. Where do I look

Hello,
On your dryer to see whats going on with the igniter you need to remove the front panel and see whats happening. To remove the frony panel remove the screws on the door hinge and the screws on the other side if the door was hinged on that side and pull the front panel off. The burner asm. will be on the right side of the base frame.

May Tag Gas Dryer Model MDG3000AWW - Dry works but no heat, more dry/ less dry lights flashing. Whats wrong? How do I get heat again?

it is either your glow coil or it is your ignitor
open the door and remove the four screws
take the front panel off.
leave the door attached so you can test the dryer
be very careful not to touch any wires while you are doing this
now close the door and turn the dryer on
does the ignitor turn on?
if yes that is good
does the ignitor glow and no flame?
sometimes it will take a minute to show it's problem
if the ignitor glows and no flame replace your ignitor coils
make sure to turn the power off when replaceing the coils

I have a Maytag MGD5800TW Gas Dryer. It does not heat up. What should I check?

First, Remove small plastic tab on front panel of dryer lower left corner. Start the dryer on regular cycle and observe what happens through hole. You need to know if ignitor glows orange. If you do not see the ignitor glow orange, replace the ignitor. If seeing full orange of the ignitor, do you hear a clicking and see the flame light?

Leave the dryer cycling while observing. When the dryer heats to temperature the flame will shut off. If the gas valve coils are bad the next thing to happen will be that the ignitor will glow orange again, the valve will click again but the flame won't light.

If the gas valve coils prove bad, based on the observations above, follow the procedure below to replace the coils. If NOT, come back with the results of your observations.

It's likely one of the coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The number for the coil kit, which will replace ALL the coils, for your machine is 279834.

Disconnect power and turn off gas before working on this dryer. Working on gas dryers is not recommended for people who are not professionals.

Disconnect Power. Remove lint filter. Remove two Phillips screws taking care NOT to allow them to fall into the blower housing. Place putty knife in the seam between the top and front panel about 2” in from either side. Push in on clip while pulling control panel forward and tilting putty knife handle up, all at the same time. Same on opposite side. Raise top all the way.

Looking down inside dryer on left and right see a 5/16” hex head screw about 6 inches down. Remove each side while holding front panel in place. Pull top of front panel about 3 inches forward from sides and then pull up. This will disengage the front panel from lower pressure clips and allow you to turn it sideways and expose the dryer interior. Take careful note of belt configuration BEFORE removing it. Draw a diagram of its travel.

Motor and idler pulley for dyer will be on right. Gas components will be on left. Replace All coils with Kit Number listed above. Take care not to touch or hit the ignitor or you will be replacing it also. It is VERY brittle.

Service on gas appliances should be undertaken by professionals only due to the danger of gas leakage which can cause fires or death by asphyxiation.

Reverse process to re-assemble.

Dryer doesnt blow hot air.

I find that quite often the ignitor is out of alignment or the glass window is covered with lint.
a gas dryer blows air through a burner assembly to heat the air. The burner assembly consists essentially of a gas valve, ignitor and a flame sensor. If any part of the burner assembly malfunctions, the result will be low or no heat and slow drying of the clothes.
There are two common styles of ignitors, glow ignitors and spark ignitors. The ignitor ignites the gas either by heating up and glowing, or by sparking. If the ignitor fails, the dryer will not heat.

The easiest way to check the ignitor is to observe it. Remove the small access panel in front, select a high temperature setting and start the dryer. Watch the burner assembly, shortly after starting the dryer the ignitor should begin to glow or spark. If you see it glow or spark, then the ignitor is working.

My Maytag model # mdg6000bww doesn't heat up?

First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it) It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off. If the ignitor does not glow then it or the thermostat is bad. If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the gas valve coils may have to be replaced. If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

Stops heatinng

Hi, first thing to check is the venting. If the vent is plugged, it will cause the heat to short cycle.
If later in the cycle, the ignitor glows but will not ignite the gas, you will need to change the coils on top the gas valve. This is a common problem.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic
