SOURCE: try to print mapquest directions and sends blank sheet out

Internet printing can be tricky because everything is in HTML which is not designed for printing but for clicking. So there are links and features but when you try to print it can be blank or half pages. Is there a button on the site that says printable view or print these directions or something similar? If you click on that it should allow you to print the page as you see it on your screen.

SOURCE: my HP printer spits out a blank page before printing document

I had same problem with hp psc 2410 all-in-one. Finally ran "HP all-in-one Series Web Release Uninstaller version: 4.1.1.00.1332 (3/20/2007) that I had downloaded several years ago. Then plug and play took over and installed the correct driver that Vista kept insisting I already had.

SOURCE: After turning on printer, prints initial "blank" sheet

You can fix this by turning off bidirectional support:

- Right click your printer, select properties
- go to the ports tab, uncheck Enable bidirectional support.

Your printer has to be turned on before printing.

That fixed the extra page printing S1M problem for me.

Lotus 123 problems

Microsoft Excel should open your old Lotus files.
Go to File > Open > Select Files of type: Lotus (*.wk?) and select your Lotus file.

Alternatively you could install and use OpenOffice spreadsheet or LibreOffice Calc and open your Lotus files.

NOT PRINTING OUT OF DOS PROGRAM

The problem is, the DOS program tries to print to LPT1, which is your parallel port. We need to redirect this to your USB Port. First, you have to set up printer sharing: Go to Control Panel | Printers | Your printer and share the printer. Assuming that you share it with the share name "MYPRINTER" and the computer is called "MYCOMPUTER", then type go to Start | Run and type in: NET USE LPT1: \\MYCOMPUTER\MYPRINTER /PERSISTENT:YES That should do the trick, unless there's a driver problem, which is unlikely for a dot matrix printer. If that doesn't work, let me know and I can troubleshoot further.

Who invented microsoft excel/

Excel is a spreadsheet developed by Microsoft but is by no means the first spreadsheet.

The very first spreadsheet was developed (or invented) by Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston called VisiCalc. VisiCalc was a spreadsheet written to operate on the Apple II computer and was released in 1979. The program was sold to Lotus who developed Lotus 123 from the VisiCalc principle. Lotus 123 was released in 1983.

Excel, first released in 1987, is a development of the early spreadsheets and therefore cannot strictly be classified as an invention. Excel is far more powerful than VisiCalc but that is also a result of development over the years that Microsoft have been working on the product, and the increase in computing power.

Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston never patented the product because software patents were almost unheard of in the 70s.

Excel is devloped for which operating system

Microsoft Excel has become a crucial tool in the international workplace, providing basic database functionality, along with spreadsheet and calculation tools. While it is currently the market leader for spreadsheets, the history of excel shows that throughout the 1980s and 90s it faced significant competition from rival software platforms like Lotus Notes, Mosaic TWIN and the Paperback VP Planner. The original Microsoft spreadsheet program was called Multiplan - which began development in 1982 - but it was never as financially successful as Lotus Notes.
Interestingly, Excel was first developed for the Macintosh operating system beginning in 1984. It made use of graphical menus and the mouse, innovating strongly relative to the other major competitors at the time. Drop-down menus and a point and click interface helped to make it more usable to non-technical workers, and in turn helped to influence graphical user interfaces in other software and operating systems at the time.
As such, when Windows was launched in 1987, Excel was one of the most important and popular pieces of software for it. The early exploration of the graphical user interface for Windows had already been conducted and market tested by earlier versions of Excel. While it was certainly not the first spreadsheet software package, it was the first to provide a powerful combination of usability and functionality to business clients of all sizes.
Lotus was relatively slow to bring Lotus 123 to Windows, failing to predict the popularity of the operating system.
One of the major turning points in Excel was the inclusion of Visual Basic for Applications in 1993, which greatly increased the functionality of the software. In turn, it also encouraged a generation of professionals to learn the programming language, further solidifying the long term demand for Excel over other spreadsheet suites

Printing a spreadsheet

You should tell us your "Operating System, Spreadsheet Program and Printer" for us to give you a difinitive answer. Whithout this info I will attempt to give you a general answer.

In your spreadsheet program, go to "File" and select "Page Setup" and set your paper size and set your margines and Portrait/landscape option. Your spreadsheet display should show you the paper limits for printing each page. Adjust the columns to the paper size. Highlight all the columns and rows you want to print. Find the menu option to set print area and click it. Now the computer will send the paged information to the printer and print as many pages as needed to cover the print area.

How to redirect lpt print to canon lbp-3000 printer

Here's what you need to do. ON the computer that you want to associate that LPT1 port, you need to know the name of the computer, and the share name of the printer. In this case, I am assuming you have the Canon LBP-3000 physically connected to this system running the FoxPro program.

Step one: Find the computer name. Click on START SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL. Double click SYSTEM. Click on the tab COMPUTER NAME and under FULL COMPUTER NAME, write down the name. Click OK to exit the window.

Step two: Click on START, SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL. Double click PRINTERS AND FAXES. Right click on the Canon LBP-3000 printer and click on SHARE. In the window that opens, click on SHARE THIS PRINTER and take note of the name in SHARE NAME: and write it down. Click on OK to share the printer and exit out of the wizard.

Step three: Click on START, RUN. Type CMD in the box and click OK. in the black window, type NET USE LPT1 \\COMPUTER NAME\SHARE NAME

Follow with RETURN or ENTER and you should be good.

Dos Program in FoxPro

To answer the question, I need to k**w if your DOS session is running inside Windows. As this is the most likely scenario, I'll answer assuming that - the answer will be different for DOS only systems.

Has the faulty LPT1 port has actually been removed? If it has, why **t just alter the port number of LPT3 back to LPT1 ? This can be done with jumpers on an old style card, or from device manager inside Windows if plug and play. If **t, you can try the following:

1: If the printer is already installed in Windows on LPT3, skip to step 3:
2: Install the printer in Windows. If you don't have a suitable driver for it, you can use Generic/Text only driver.
3: Right click on the printer, go to sharing, and make the printer shareable. Use a share name of 11 or less characters and ** spaces - e.g. EPSONLX500
4: From the CMD prompt, type the command:

net use lpt1: \\%computername%\Sharename

e.g.

net use lpt1: \\%computername%\EPSONLX500

**te that you do **t need to replace %computername% with your exact computer name - the machine will do it for you.

Finally, for others reading this, you can also use this technique to print from DOS to most "intelligent" USB printers (Hi end Laser, Dot Matrix etc). It probably won't work with "dumb" GDI printers or All-in-ones where Windows has to do all the work. If the printer supports PCL or ESCP printing languages, you are probably going to be OK.
