There is a rubber drive belt at the back of the dryer. This may have either come off the wheel that runs behind the dryer drum, or split and fallen off.

If you can still hear the motor running when you turn on the dryer, then the above is likely to have happened.
You can buy a replacement drive belt - probably best price would be On-line from a Whirlpool stockist.

These are not difficult to fit if you are reasonably good at DIY and have some basic tools, but make sure the dryer is unplugged BEFORE you remove the rear panel!!!

My dryer gets hot but doest dry my clothes i lifted the top and spun the barrell around and noticed that the seal is torn could that be the cause

Sounds like a belt problem with no clothes in the dryer turn the dryer on for a minute or so open the door if the drum is spinning it not belt if drum is not spinning it's more that likely the belt that turns the drum.also need to check the exhaust hose in back of dryer it could have a blockage check lint screen also.Hope this helps.

Hello there and welcome to Fixya :
This is a fairly common problem with these whirpool dryers.
I will provide you with the 7 most common things to look for
which contribute to the symptom Dryer won't stop are listed below. Check or test each item and watch any available videos. If you are still unable to solve the problem you may need to do additional research and troubleshooting.
Show all parts for model GEW9878LW0 For the symptom you selected, these are the most common parts or causes, ordered by the likelihood of fixing the symptom.
othercausesandconditions.jpg Air Flow Problem The most common problem when a dryer is slow is when the vent is clogged. If the dryer is slow, check the vent from the back of the dryer to the outside of the house. If that is clogged, clear it completely and test the dryer. If the dryer is slow after the vent is cleaned, clean the internal ductwork of the dryer. This will require some disassembly.

Item # 686172
The blower wheel draws air through the dryer and pushes the air out the vent. If the dryer won't stop, the blower wheel may not be spinning properly, which reduces the air flow. Check to see if the blower wheel is securely fastened to the drive motor shaft.

My whirpool dryer won't spin

It can be due to few reasons and so you can check on them.
1. Check the main power line, trace to the main control switch and its output. If not the switch is faulty.
2. Check the working of the motor, check the capacitor to the motor.
3. Check manually if the drive is free and is not jammed or struck up. If so you will need to overhaul the mechanism.
4. Check the door switch is the switch is faulty the motor will not be turned on.

Whirpool Washer LSQ9500LQ0 Won't Spin or Drain

Your belt assessment sounds correct on the dryer problem.
If you can, restore the lid switch connections, and operate the switch during what should be spin. You should be able to hear a relay or solenoid clicking off and on with the switch.

Do you hear the motor running? It may just be a broken belt. If it is in fact the motor it can be replaced.
