Re: Modem problem

Spent many hours of my life on this problem, so i took out the modem and replaced it, i noticed the connection was not good so i stuffed a small, but as thick as i could  get piece of cardboard  in under the cover over the modem on the mobo plug end. Then screwed it down again and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps. macbaz

Toshiba laptops a30 error 633 the modem or other connecting device is already in use or is not configured properly how do i solve this?

Since you don't list your operating system, its hard to take you through all the arcane steps that don't always solve this problem that has caused many people alot of grief. So, here's something you can try if your laptop is no longer under warranty. These were badly made modems that get loose in their plugin spot on the motherboard. You can remove the cover on the bottom of the laptop where the modem is located and fold a small peice of paper ubntil it's the right thickness so that when you set it on top of the modem and screw the cover back down, the cover pushes down on the paper and thus the moden causing a tight plug in fit.

If you don't understand what I'm asking you to do, don't try it yourself but find a friend who's familiar with opening up laptops to do it with you.

It may sound nuts but it works a fair bit of the time. If it doesn't work, you'll either have to do some fairly advanced software adjustments or buy a new modem. This error code number you're getting often means the modem is bad.

I replaced windows xp professional with win xp home, because the operating system failed to start. Now I cannot connect to the internet through the centrino mobile adapter on my compaq nc6000. The error...

I think you've not installed the modem driver. Go to device manager, check for modems and find if modem is displaying and its driver is installed.

If not install the modem driver, then it'll start recognizing the modem.

Hope it worked for you. Thanks for using Fixya. All the best.

HI While installing Vedio driver is trowing RPC server unava

Hello sans_sankar,

If it says RPC server is unavailable, that has to do with your internet connection.

Check if both ends of your ethernet or USB cable are properly plugged in their ports on your modem or router to your computer.

You can also turn the modem or router off for a minute then turn it back on again.

Your video installation should be complete, otherwise, it might be incompatible with your computer.

Hope that helps.

Yours truly,

I have s dell studio 15 laptop. i got a dell conexant rd02-d400 modem so i could use dial up with it. now i get errors that say it can't connect, but that everything os ok.. error 692 and 618 (i think)...

Connect your modem to the phone line and test the modem.

Control Panel-->>Phones and Modems. Click icon. Tab Modem. Highlight your modem, and Click Properties--->>Diagnostics. Verify that everything is OK.

Then Start --->>All Programs -->>Accessories-->> Comunications ---Hyperterminal.

Enter a name for a bogus connection, Click OK
Enter your phone number and dial it. If Phone/Modem connection is OK, you shoul hear the busy signal.
Alternative:Run the Dell diagnostics.

If Modem connection is correct you must then create a dialup connection.
Hope it helps.

Error no.797 occurs when i tried to connect to internet through dial up modem

797 - The modem could not be found.

This error occurs only in Windows 2000 and XP. The error can occur if the modem is no longer visible to the system, and may be a problem related to the modem driver, or system conflicts that cause the modem to work only some of the time.
In some cases, rebooting the machine may "solve" the problem.
If the modem is an external and is not powered on when the system is booted this error may occur: shut-down, power on the modem & re-boot the system.
If the error persists, check to see if there is an updated driver for your modem.

I have a Fujitso S V5535 laptop. O/S VISTA. I cannot find a Modem / though there is an extl cable connection. Whenever I try to set up an Internet A/C it "says". "No Modem". How would I correct this?

Most laptops have a built-in modem and LAN card and have modem and LAN connectors on the side or rear of the laptop.
If you cannot detect or see your modem then the problem could be :-
Make sure you connect the phone cable into the phone connector (the narrower one) and not in the LAN connector on the laptop.
The problem could be :-
The modem driver was not installed or disabled.
1st - check to see if the modem was not disabled in the BIOS.
2nd - Go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - and check to see if there is a yellow ? against the modem device. If there is a ? then the modem driver was not installed.
Then install the modem driver.
If there isn't a ? against the modem make sure the modem is enabled.
If you still cannot resolve the problem, list what steps you have taken and any error messages and get back to me.
