Question about BenQ PB2250 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Lamp will not stay on more that a minute or so. Why? All of the fans are working and none of the vents are clogged but it is like a thermal switch shuts the lamp off.

If the projector is overheating, it will shut down. blow out the projector with canned air. the dust keeps in the heat that the fans are trying to expell. if it has shut down from heat to often, you'll need to replace the thermosensor. if you are not sure it's temp related, check the lamp for bulges and black spots. replace lamp if necessary.

I have a Samsung hln617w dlp and it will work fine for ten minutes then the picture goes then it shuts down and all three lights flash.

Hello, have you changed the lamp? It sounds like the lamp is either failing or just over heating, which can occur when the vent in the lamp clogs up or the fans are clogged up with dust. I don't think that one of the fans are bad, the set would shut down after just a few seconds. DO NOT use canned air or anything that blows into it to clean it, vacuum it out wit the aid of a small brush (1/2 inch paint brush) works well. If all that is ok, change the lamp.....tks

Hello, was it doing the same thing before you changed the lamp? If it was it may be just over heating, which can occur when the vent in the lamp clogs up or the fans are clogged up with dust. DO NOT use canned air or anything that blows into it to clean it, vacuum it out wit the aid of a small brush (1/2 inch paint brush) works well. You might try that and see if it stays on, if that doesn't help, you may have a bad lamp....be sure to use a genuine Mitsubishi or Osram lamp only!.....tks

I used the restore where you hold down the zero and turn on and now my schoolwork is lost forever. Cant get the laptop to stay on? Doesnt even make it to the sign on screen.

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

The lamp has just been replaced and now the tv will only stay on for 30 minutes and then turn itself off. The lamp indicator light is red. We can turn the tv back on and the light goes off. Six months ago...

Did you press the System Reset button with a ball point pin on the front of the set? You might have a ballast going bad if it has never been replaced. But first, the reset button then you may have a thermal switch which is located just above the lamp housing. I test the thermal switches by unhooking (while set is unplugged) one of the wires and then putting an alligator clip jumper between the two wires to see if it last longer than the 30 minutes you mentioned. Lastly, there must not be any dust in and around the fan which can cause overheating. Sounds like you have an overheating problem initially. The thermal switch cuts the set off if there is overheating. And also if the switch is faulty it will cut off the set. Also look in the menu for a temperature setting if this model has a setting such as this.

Turns on but shuts off after a minute or 2

Check the case vents to see if any are clogged with dust, especially the ones for the lamp. This may be thermal protection kicking in because the lamp isn't getting adequate cooling airflow.

My benq projectors is swiching itself off after alittle while

You may have a fan out or somthing is blocking the vents. Have you looked to see if it has a filter? some DLP units dont have filters but most LCD units do. If the filters are some what clogged then it may not be cooling good and tripping the thermal shutdown.

Projectors use high power bulbs that get SUPER hot and they use a thermal sensor above the lamp so if it isnt cooling properly it wont start a fire. It may have other issues but i would start here because this is normal maitence on projectors.

The projector will switch on, but not stay on. It stays on for about 45 seconds, then the power switch flashes on and off.

Hello :

These are the symptoms of overheating problem . You need to check the fans .

Are the input and output vents blocked or obstructed in any way?

Are the filters dirty or clogged? Most manufacturers will recommend filter cleaning on a monthly basis depending on usage

Remove any extension cords, power strips and/or surge suppressors. Many current model projectors will not even try to ignite the lamp if they detect drops or fluctuation in voltage supplied to the unit. This is a safety feature to reduce stress on the lamp.

Temp light flashes tried unplugging it for a few minutes turned it on tries to power up but then power , lamp , temp lights flash for a few seconds then it shuts down and temp light stays on

It sounds like you have a thermal issue. The TV is getting too hot or the Thermal Fuse is bad. The thermal fuse detects the temperature in the TV and tells the TV to shut down if it thinks it is too hot. Most likely caused by poor ventilation or clogged fans from household dust. Try moving TV away from wall or cabinet first, if this does not fix the problem, clean ALL the fans in the TV. If problem still persists, replace the thermal fuse.

Red Light Flashing 6 times

A 6 blink usually indicates a bad thermal fuse caused by the lamp temperature getting too hot. I strongly suggest replacing the sirrocco fan that mounts on top of the optical block too. Usually this fan gets clogged up with dust so the lamp temperature gets hotter than it should causing the thermal fuse to open up. Replacing the thermal fuse, sirrocco fan and cleaning the dust from the inside and fans will cure this. A Sony authorized servicer should be able to repair this for you. Good Luck
