Check your fingers. If they are greasy or sweaty, wash your hands and try again. Then using a soft cloth clean the trackpad. This should work.

Keep the palms of your hands away from the "touchpad" -- it's sensitive to objects that don't actually touch it, but come "close" to it.

Also, check that none of the "arrow" keys on your keyboard are "stuck" in the "down" position.

If necessary, use CONTROL PANEL to "disable" the touchpad, and connect an external USB mouse.

You wouldn't have some live insect in your keyboard have you? I've seen Microwaves do strange stuff when infested with some tiny insects BUT I doubt it's the case with your machine. I am trying to recall a Keyboard key that I sometimes accidentally press when trying to create a document using Word, etc which does the same or similar to what you've described. It pees me of as I don't know which button I hit, it is one of the main reasons I avoid Word, Outlook, etc. Please let us know if solved, cheers.

Runaway touchpad on HP laptop.

I have the same problem. An external mouse does not behave erratically. If the touchpad is wearing out, will a replacement touchpad solve the problem, or does the circuit board need replacing?

The cursor, for no reason, will suddenly disappear or 'have a mind of its own'!! Please help

try uninstalling the synaptics driver the reinstalling it again, if it doesnt work out maybe your touch pad is having problems, try using usb mouse if it is the same result maybe driver issue or the os itself.

I have an Acer laptop. While typing the cursor suddenly jumps up a couple of lines, or suddenly may highlight a phrase, causing instant erasure of the previously typed material. Why does cursor continually...

your palm might be hitting the touchpad causing your mouse cursor to move and jump around... try to type with only your fingers hitting the keys and the back of your hand raised and not hitting any part of your laptop... hope this helps....

The keyboard on my new HP mini311 has a mind of its own, with the cursor jumping around the current document in some random order - it is driving me crazy!

Are you sure that you are not accidentally rubbing against the "touchpad", which would cause the cursor to move?

Cursor jumping, pages scrolling on own

bad mouse action , no other words need be said just that.
NO OP SYS STATED BY YOU< XP?
if the mouse is a wireless mouse, the battery is dead.
if the 1 mouse is wired it is bad.
if there are 2 mice connected , shut one down 2mice not allowed.

if the mouse pad is enabled then that is 2 mice if usb mouse used.
and not ever good to do that,
disable one of the mice. (easy no? rules)
i disable my LT here, , in control panel, device manager , mouse pad synaptic or what ever it is.
RC right click disable, it , I hate mice pads././/

Does your laptop have a touch pointer within the keypad? This can cause the problem you're experiencing. Did you try turning the track stick off in the touchpad settings?

Buzzing noise

well I think I have solved the problem...

After numerous attempts to isolate the unit from possible source of interference, I had the idea to
reset the base unit (disconnect and reconnect the power cable) and it seems to have worked!!!
Often the solution is the most obvious but our minds look for complications all the time!

thanks anyway
