Question about Frigidaire PLMV168 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire Microwave, Model FMV156DCC. Magnetron allegedly has a 10 year warranty---recently died, and I need to show local retailer I bought it from the documentation to back this up. I don't have access to the tech manual. Anyone know where I can get a copy?

There could be an open fuse inside or a failed magnetron.

The "6" pad on the microwave's membrane keypad is shorted.

If this is under warranty, refer to your owner's manual to contact Frigidaire customer service about finding a local servicer to fix it under warranty.

If it's out of warranty, looking at the retail price of this model, it may not be economical to have it repaired.

If you or a friend can get a new keypad from Frigidaire at a decent price, you can refer to a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

FMV156DCC stopped working.

It may be a blown fuse or thermal cutout / thermostat on either the magnetron or oven cavity.

We have the basic FMV156 service manual and have uploaded it here to help you.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range grille and control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. Then you can access most of it for testing and part replacement.

Frigidaire microwave fmv156dcc the timer goes thru the timing motion but does not cook.

Many of the newer microwaves are fused in the cooking portion of the unit. There is usually
A ceramic automotive style fuse in a holder inside the case of the microwave. Be sure
to unplug unit before attempting to replace this item (about 2 dollars at an appliance
parts store or even radio shack). The volts and amps are stamped on each end, normally
250V (250 volts) and 5A (5 amps) Be aware that the capacitors can hold quite a
residual charge similar to an electric fence, so be mindful of them.
(can shaped items with leads coming to them usually metal). Hope this helps.

Microwave won't heat, already tried replacing fuse. Timer, fan, clock work.

In all probability, the magnetron has died. The magnetron is the part that creates the microwaves that cook your food. Magnetrons are usually covered under a 5- or 10-year warranty and replacing them yourself can be pretty dangerous. I'd suggest you call a technician.

The most likely problem is the magnetron. Check your warranty in owners manual, I believe you have five year warranty on magnetron.

Grinding or dragging noise (model # PLMB209DC)

Unless it's a fan dragging (evidenced by reduced air flow) I would suspect the magnetron is failing.

Even though labor and the other parts are out of warranty, they still cover the magnetron for 10 years.

Most of the time the magnetron is defective if the food is not heating up.
In some cases there is a defective low power transformer or other componenents associated with the magnetron.
I would suggest to check the owners manual under the warranty section. Sometimes the magnetron has 5 years warranty.
Good Luck.
