Hello. It is possible to do a field test on your AVR unit. Here is what you do: you will need a three phase power supply, dummy loads of similar resistance to your exciter coil and a potentiometer of the anticipated value. As you adjust the potentiometer on either side of the incoming supply you will find the field current drop or rise. This is not a truly scientific method but it is the method that many generator manufacturers use for their field tests.

How to test a Generator Alternator Output - Brushed Alternator AVR

We have now had over 500,000 views of our AVR Generator testing video! Years ago, we discovered an easier way to test your portable generator's alternator and attachments! So, we made this video a few years ago to share the discovery. This testing procedure means that you do not need to know the Ohms for a particular alternator, and makes the process much more easy than the traditional methods! Check it out!

How do I reset my harman/kardon avr 630 receiver ?

See link for users manual. Instructions for Processor Reset are on page 50.

    "Processor Reset
In the rare case where the unit's operation or the displays
seem abnormal, the cause may involve the erratic
operation of the system's memory or microprocessor.
To correct this problem, first unplug the unit from the
AC wall outlet and wait at least three minutes. After the
pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the
unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a
system reset may clear the problem.
To clear the AVR 630's entire system memory including
tuner presets, output level settings, delay times and
speaker configuration data, first put the unit in Standby
by pressing the Standby/On Switch1. Next, press
and hold the Surround Mode Group Selector2
and the Tuning Mode Selector8buttons for three
    seconds.
The unit will turn on automatically and display the
RESET message in the Upper Display Line #.
NOTE: Resetting the processor will erase any configuration
settings you have made for speakers, output
levels, surround modes, digital input assignments as
well as the tuner presets. After a reset the unit will be
returned to the factory presets, and all settings for
    these items must be reentered.
If the system is still operating incorrectly, there may
have been an electronic discharge or severe AC line
interference that has corrupted the memory or
    microprocessor.
If these steps do not solve the problem, consult an
    authorized Harman Kardon service center."

How to test the electrical system of the generator for free

Ez test to determine if stator wiring is ok. This test works on generators that have two sets of 115v plugs and 220v plug. Use a 12v, 1amp ac power supply ( smaller ac power supply should work ok ). With generator not running, apply 12v to one of the 115v outlet plugs. Now verify 12v output voltage with meter at another 115v outlet on generator. Also verify that there is about twice the voltage at the 220 v outlet plug (should be about 20v - 24v) . If the adjoining 115 v outlet plug has no output or very little voltage or if the 220 volt plug has no output, most likely stator is damaged or breaker is off. If the stator is shorted voltage reading will be very low and power supply will heat up. If stator is open, there will be no voltage at second 115v plug or 220 v plug. If voltage is ok at the other outlet plugs as per test above then most likely problem is with voltage regulator, or brushes not making contact or armature winding open or just needs to be energized. Unplug the 12v power supply after test to prevent it from overheating. Most generators have two 115v windings that together power the 220v plug. When you energize one of the windings with the 12v power supply, the second 115v winding will be energized also and give you a voltage reading about equal to 12v. You will not damage the generator with this small voltage being input thru the plug. Good luck

No sound regardless of input. front panel lights up and functions as per inputs however also noticed pwr supply fan and internal heat sink fan do NOT turn on. Any debugging tips appreciated! Thank You...

The power supply has to be on to some extent or it wouldn't light up.

No sound? Is it Muted or a tape Monitor selected inadvertently?

    No or little ac output

By ac you mean receptacles, not ac welding?
If so what about welding output on AC (DC)?

If welding is OK then you may have breaker or fuse problem.
If welding output is also low or no output your problem is the generator.
You should check your gen rpm to be normal. If so you may have field problem: rectifier, AVR etc.
If you can measure the field DC voltage at rated rpm, if it is missing (very low) try to find any circuit broken.
If you do not succeed answer this instruction in order to give you more.

The left side main output won't put out any sound on my Denon AVR-900.

connect your right speaker cable to the left output, if the sound comes out then the problem is on the left speaker ( the cable or the speaker itself ), but if still no sound, then the problem is on the power output of the unit, need to repair them

AVR-487 won't power up, "standby" light flashes

Pull the top on the receiver; it's usually 7 or 8 small phillips screws. Once you pull the top, look where the AC cord enters the unit. (make sure it's unplugged) and there should be one or two fuses. If they are coated fuses, you need a meter to tell you if they are good or bad. Put a meter on resistance/tone and your probes on either side of the fuse, if you hear a tone, the fuse is good, if you don't touch the two probes together to test your tone and check again, if still no tone, you have a bad fuse. You should be able to get a replacement at Radio Shack or any Electronics Parts store. If your fuses are good, you've got a service issue and it needs to go out for repair. Hope this helps

    Denon AVR 1506

Try this, turn off the unit and remove the AC power cord from the electrical outlet, Hold the AUTO button and PCM button and plug the unit back into the electrical outlet, if the display starts flashing with 1 second intervals then release the 2 buttons, this initialized the microprocessor
