Question about ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard

2 Answers

I installed a new video card, Radeon 3650. Installed per the instructions. upon boot up, i smelled a burning component. i removed the 3650 and reinstalled the original video card. now I have no video so i suspect the mobo is fried. I am looking to replace the mobo but am having a problem finding a socket 478 mobo. any advice?

This is a good possibility except the RAM is DDR (ASUS board) versus DDR2 for the Biostar board.

Yes. I would suggest a Biostar P4M900M4 mobo.

Why?
1.Very stable board.
2.FSB support of 533MHz or 800MHz.
3.Ram memory used is DDR2 Sdram at 667MHz. (PC2-4200) Max amount is 4GB. (Limited of course if you're running a 32bit O/S. Then with 4GB's installed it's 3.2GB to 3.5GB recognized)
4.RAID 0 and RAID 1
5.Has 1 PCI-E x16 slot.
Newegg has them for one place.

Just a personal opinion and not advertising for said website avove.

What Pentium 4 are you using, and what frequency rate of ram? 400MHz? 333MHz? What is the original graphics card?

I've been looking for a decent replacement for your motherboard. What amount are you willing to spend? Redundant question I know, 'Little as possible, DUH!'

But, I am basing the price on available replacement motherboards, versus the motherboard chipset.
    (Northbridge/Southbridge chipset)

Naturally the i875P you had before is much higher, than per se an i845, but there are moderately priced mobo's, (Motherboard's), with an i865 chipset.

Direct replacement mobo is around $176.

    One that has
    1.Socket 478
2.Support for Intel Pentium 4 Prescott Core cpu, (FSB 800MHz)
3.Support for up to 4GB's of DDR Sdram at 400MHz
    4.Support for AGP 8X
    5.Intel i865 mobo chipset,
    is around $90.

Using an Intel i845 chpset, and support for 2GB's of DDR Sdram at 400MHz, is around $30. (Refurbished)

    1.AsRock P4i65PE-M

    http://3btech.net/asp4miso4784.html

It is a Micro-ATX form factor motherboard (9.6 inches by 9.6 inches), and the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe is an ATX form factor motherboard, (12 by 9.6 inches) Just gives you more room inside your computer case. $23 USD

    2.Intel D845EPI/D845GVSR

Hi:
socket 478 motherboards are getting harder to find. You should shop around at www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and even www.pricewatch.com

You might find an economical board, or a cpu/board combo that isn't much more to upgrade to.

try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems
are you sure its the video card and not the fan that is faulty you could remove the fan and install the video card again and see/smell if any smoke comes from the video card if it does you will need to buy a new one

Ati HD 3650 No Signal

1st. Is it a new install?
If not, then check to make sure your bios on your motherboard is set up to display from your pcie slot and not your integrated graphics if applicable. Also, if your card has a 6pin power plug make sure you have it plugged in.
Also, if you had a different card installed prior, make sure you uninstall all video drivers prior to installing the new one.

Videocard not working

Try removing the new card, booting into BIOS, change your video setting the slot of your card: I believe your card is PCI-E, save changes and exit. When it starts to reboot, turn the computer off, install the new card and then try rebooting again. You may also have to boot into Safe Mode\Uninstall the original video driver or disable that video component and then try rebooting your system.
