Question about Cardiozone Exercise & Fitness

3 Answers

I have a cardiozone CZE Max 04 treadmill that will only run for a breif time and then shows an E11 error code. I already replaced the speed sensor and the bottom control board and this did not fix it. The person at Treadmill Dr told me that it is most likely the upper board and that these are not avilable anywhere. Is this the case? Do you have any ideas as to how I can fix it other than finding another one with a good upper board?

I have already done the recalibration several times with no change. I have changed the lower control board and the speed sensor with no change so it must be the upper control board. I need to know where to get a new one or get this on fixed.

I have done all of these things and more. It is for sure at this point that the upper board is bad. What I need to know is where I can get a board since the company is out of business. Or get it fixed. I am very frustrated with this situation. Any help?

This company, Keys, is out of business and hone of those numbers, etc are good. I need to know where to get an upper board or get this one repaired. I have done all the recalibration, etc. It has to be the upper board. Where can I get one?

  • devierd Nov 19, 2009

The number you gave does not get a response and the websites are not active. The problem is that the company is out of business and there are not parts readily avilable. Please believe me when I say that i have tried and tried to find this part with no luck. I had this nimber before and was never able to get a reply.

This is a calibration issue and may have nothing to do with the boards. You need to recalibrate as per page 20 of the manual. Press in the eraser end of a pencil in the back of the console to activate the cal process and you do that twice till cl21 shows up. Then you have a lot more that needs to be done. If you dont have the manual let me know.

From what I understand, this code appears when the walking belt is moving slower than the console is showing.

The most common problem is belt/deck friction. If you have a belt that has too much friction, it can cause a wide enough speed variation to create an error.

Also before doing anything, check the drive system for a foreign object. Something such as a small marble in the drive system can cause this error code.

If the treadmill had a screeching noise, the bearings in one of the bearings or motor could have had a problem.

Make sure the motor fan is firmly attached to the motor shaft. There are a series of “fins” on the fan that are read by the speed sensor. If it is not properly attached, you can get a bad reading. Also if some of the fins have broken off, a bad reading results.

Check the wire from the speed sensor and make sure it is firmly in place on the sensor and the electronics. Make sure the S F/B LED on the controller flashes as the fan turns. This is telling you the sensor is reading properly. If it doesn't flash, try cleaning the sensor with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol

The code indicates lack of feedback data from the belt motor. The recommended fix is to re-calibrate. Here are the calibration instructions.

Our treadmill is equipped with a software package that will perform a calibration sequence unique to
your specific model number. Please perform the following steps to calibrate the CARDIOZONE
ELITE TREADMILL.
1. Unplug power cord from outlet strip.
2. Attach Safety Key to console.
3. Plug power cord into outlet strip.
4. Initiate calibration sequence. Locate hole on the back of the console and insert the eraser end of a
pencil through the hole and press the calibration switch twice. As show on page 14.
5. CL21 should appear in the Time window, if not, continue to press the calibration switch until CL21
appears.
Note: During the calibration sequence, the Time window will display which step you are at in the
process (C21, C22, C23 and so on). The CAL/DIST window will display which key should be entered
next. For example, “E” for Enter, “P” for Power, or “SS” for Start / Stop.
6. CL21: MPH or KPH will be flashing in the Speed window, pressing the Speed +/ - button will toggle
options. Choose MPH (KPH), press Enter.
7. CL22: 8, 10, or 12 (13, 16, or 20 in KPH mode) will be displayed in the Speed window, pressing the
Speed +/ - button will toggle options. Choose 10 (or 16 for KPH mode), press Enter.
8. CL23: FFF, UUU, or HHH will be displayed in the Speed window, pressing the Speed +/ - button
will toggle options. Choose UUU, press Enter.
9. CL24: 111 or 222 will be displayed in the Speed window, pressing the Speed +/ - button will toggle
options. Choose 222, press Enter.
10. CL25: AL1 or AL2 will be displayed in the Speed window, pressing the Speed +/ - button will
toggle options. Choose AL2, press Enter.
11. CL26: OPA or OPI will be displayed in the Speed window, pressing the Speed +/ - button will
toggle options. Choose OPA, press Enter.
12. CL27: Blank (nothing), “a”, “b”, “c”, or “d” will be displayed in the Incline window, pressing the
Speed +/ - button will toggle options. Choose Blank, press Enter.
13. CAL/DIST window will display “E”, Press Enter. “55” will display in CAL/DIST window.
14. Press Start/ Stop.
15. At this time, make sure you are not standing on the walking belt, as the machine will automatically
initiate belt movement and run through a complete calibration and diagnostic routine.
Press Enter, belt will begin to move, unit will begin self-calibration.
16. When Speed and Incline calibration has finished, press Power button twice, display should blank,
and treadmill should be ready for use.
To avoid possible damage to the treadmill and the possibility of injury, do not
operate the treadmill until the problem is corrected. Call Keys Technical Service
at (888) 340-0482.

Good Luck! I hope this is very helpful!

By the way, if you are the original purchaser, the product is warranted for life. If not, and you find that you cannot reset the code, or there is in fact a problem with the board, which I doubt, but if there is, you can get parts directly from Cardiozone! So don't fret...hope the re-set goes well. The link below is a copy of the lifetime warranty. I hope you find this very helpful!

It is very simple...in your original post you stated that someone had told you the board was bad, and that you simply could not get a replacement...I responded that #1 you could and I have told you where to obtain one and #2 I suggested the reset proceedure which unbeknown to me you had already done. I have given you the e-mail address for the part that you requested, (that you were told did not exist), and have given you the phone # to get the part that you were previously told did not exist. I have given you a # to service from the manufacturer that will advise as to whether or not that is indeed your problem....Exactly what do you want done at this point...are you close by? I am in North Carolina and if you would like and you are close by, I'll order the necessary part and come and fix it for you. I will accomidate in any way you wish, but I'm not sure what it is you want because I answer your request, then there is another....Hello?

  • Hal Hallman Nov 19, 2009

I called the # I provided and guess what...they are still in biz!!!

  • Hal Hallman Nov 19, 2009

The last # I gave you...not keys is good.

  • Hal Hallman Nov 19, 2009

Strange, I called and got an answer...not the keys # mind you but the other??? Go figure.

  • Hal Hallman Nov 19, 2009

Does it make sense that a company that is "{out of business} would pay to keep up their website and respond to my call??? I'm thinkin no. I do not know why you are having a prob gettin in touch with these people, but if it is necessary, I'll get in touch for you and have them call????

  • Hal Hallman Nov 23, 2009

I hate that you are having this trouble. I tried the # again today and got response...not keys mind you, but the other. Let me know where you are at on this issue and what else I can do to assist!

This usually means a faulty LCB or motor. The fact it has not been used much doesn't matter. It is 7 years old. Usually you can not see faulty parts on the LCB. I do think if you really want the answer call a treadmill repairer . If you don't know what you are doing it can be dangerous.

Health Trainer 2.0 treadmill stopped. Readout says E-11. What does that mean?

The walking belt is moving slower that the console is showing. Many times, the same symptoms can cause an E11 and an E22 error.
  1. The most common problem is belt/deck friction. If you have a belt that has too much friction, it can cause a wide enough speed variation to create an error. You can try our World Famous lube to help but eventually at least the belt will have to be replaced.
  2. Before doing anything, check the drive system for a foreign object. A little "helper" can put a small ball in the drive system and you'll get an error code.
  3. Be aware of any noises the treadmill was making. If the treadmill had a screeching noise, the bearings in one of the bearings or motor could have had a problem. Read our help section on how to find bearing noise to isolate which part is causing the trouble.
  4. Make sure the motor fan is firmly attached to the motor shaft. There are a series of "fins" on the fan that are read by the speed sensor. If it is not properly attached, you can get a bad reading. Also if some of the fins have broken off, a bad reading results.

Error message E21

E21 means the treadmill is not picking up a speed signal once the start key is pressed. First, determine if the motor is turning before you get the E21 or not. If the motor turns, the speed sensor is the most likely problem. If it does not, you can manually turn the belt with your feet before you get the E21 and you should get a speed reading but eventually you will get an error code because it is almost impossible to keep the speed constant enough for the computer. Try running it through calibration with the motor shroud off.
Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key.
Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
On this next step do not step on the treadmill when you press the Speed Up key and hold it down until 85 is shown in the Distance window (some models may show the 85 number in another window).
If the top speed of the treadmill does not match the displayed speed on the computer console, adjust the max speed potentiometer (pot) on the motor control board. This is the board that the red and black motor wires connect directly into in the motor area. The Max Speed pot is clearly labeled.
The max speed potentiometer is a small black square with a white center and is located near the three small speed wire connections labeled H, W, & L. Using a small insulated screwdriver adjust this potentiometer clockwise to speed up and counter-clockwise to slow down the max speed of the treadmill. A tiny turn of this potentiometer will make a big difference in speed so be careful when making adjustments.
It is not important to get the speed set exactly at the max speed of the treadmill but do make sure to get the speed within .2 MPH of the max speed of the treadmill. For instance if the max speed of the treadmill is 10 MPH, make sure to have the speed set between 9.8 MPH and 10.2 MPH. Some models have a 12 MPH top speed, so please check your manual if you aren’t sure.
After completing calibration of the speed, press the Speed Down key. The treadmill will automatically return to 0 MPH. Please allow the unit to stop completely before continuing, press the Stop key once and remove the safety key.
If the motor does not run, test the motor but first unplug unit then unplug the two leads ( Red and Black ) that is connected to the Motor Control Board.Cordless drill battery- get a fully-charged, 18 volt (preferred) cordless drill battery and on most treadmills connect the red and black motor leads to the battery (some have different colors but if you have two wires and get it hooked up backwards, the motor will just run backwards and won’t be harmed). If good, the motor should operate at about 1 MPH. Then Motor Control Motor will need to replaced

I have an E1 error on my cardio zone supersport 4.0 HP treadmill. Just stoped when running on it. speed was at 8.3 mph

Unplug your unit, then remove motor shroud . Next step is to locate the motor control board and plug you unit in. Your board should light up with red ,green, or amber L E Ds now manually move the running belt and you should see one of those lights flickers that should tell us the speed sensor is working, if not it needs to be replaced , their maybe other issues, Unplug unit then find the red and black wire that connects the motor to board disconnect them used a simple DC power source like a 9v battery connect them to the motor leads and if the motor armature rotates then all problems point to the motor controll board.
