Brother 8460N Laserjet

Printer stops and gives an "Out of Paper" message even when the bottom paper tray is full of paper. This just started happening.
Any ideas?

shows "no paper" when there is full of paper in the mp tray.

when I call the Brother customer support center, they told me to unplug power for 10 seconds then plug it back in. afterwards, it works fine.

Hi

This is unfortunately very common issue about MFC-8460N, There are few steps you can try, Set to factory default (Reset), move the roller manually so sensor will detect new position or locate the paper detector and bypass it. There are many users have been complaining regarding the issue that you have, Before try the troubleshooting that i have suggested please do call the hotline of Brotherif you have ongoing warranty. This is a common issue.
Here is the solution:
Pull out the paper tray
On the left of the feed roller there is a black piece of plastic that is a sensor. It is jammed forward. Gently bend it out to the left and push it back until it snaps back into place.

Be careful not to break it.

2 additional possible causes:

1. the guides in the paper tray may be mis-aligned. Try re-aligning them

2. software glitch. does the printer work from some document sources but not others? if so, you are dealing with a software bug. You'll have to try to pin down the problem software, then speak with Brother about an updated driver.

Pick up rollers are probably splipping causing the printer to think it's out of paper. Pull out the tray and clean the rubber rollers underneath the printer with some water and lint free cloth, should help.

My printer is giving me a "no Paper" status and will not print even though the paper tray is full

remove the paper tray and check under the printer in the paper flag is in the down position. If it is you will have to take the printer to tech to clean or replace the paper sensor.

Paper tray problem - full of paper but can't pull up paper and display says tray empty also loud clicking noise coming from paper tray

hopefully we can stop problem before it gets worse, take paper tray all the way out of machine, look at back of tray where paper stop is, move to LTR make sure arrow is pointing directly to it, not before od after, then lock it in, the pictograhm has a pad lock symbol to show locked and unlocked. if the blue tape is still in paper tray, remove it. hopefully no damage done to pick up assembly, or gears on paper tray

Problem for Brother MFC-8460N error message no paper in tray tried cleaning. re loading, on-off. etc.

Make sure the paper guide is not too tight, also set the paper tray on a table and look at the gear on the side at the bottom. The flat part of that gear must be level with the bottom of the tray, if not the metal under the lifter is bent and needs to be straightened. also tip the printer on it's back and make sure the sensor levers by the feed roller move freely.

Paper is in the feed tray, but it continues to say NO Paper??? Brother MFC-8460N any suggestions?

Could be a tab or spring broken off of the feed tray, dirty feed roller can cause that error when paper doesn't feed. Paper guide too tight so that paper can't lift to the feed roller also a possibility. Sensor above paper stack out of position.. many possibilities.

Message keeps paper tray is full and it is full.

pull cassette out and look inside the cassette bay on the left side. there is a white gear that lifts up your paper. that might have come unseated. make sure its seated in right by pushing it back in. last but not least, make sure you don't have your rear paper stopper in cassette pushing paper too hard against the front of cassette preventing paper from raising up.

Mfc 8460n paper jam

Check to see if this happens when you use the drop down manual feed tray. If your printer works fine using the manual feed tray the problem is with your paper tray. Check to make sure it is set to letter size. I've found that sometimes the 'teeth' holding the paper stop on the paper tray wear out and when the printer goes to pick up paper, it pushes the paper stop out of position causing the printer to think it's using a different, much longer size paper thus preventing it from feeding all the way through. You'll probably need a new paper tray if this is the case.

I found the problem was with MS Word. The tray has to be set to Tray 1 and not MP.
