Assuming you have removed the 3 screws that cover the clucth cover and removed the clutch cover, and assuming yo have taked the clutch knob off, all you need to do is grab the rubber belts and give it a good tug

Brush roller will not rotate on Dyson dc04 absolute

The brush will not rotate when the machine is upright. The brush only rotates when it is reclined; in use.
On the side of the housing where you place your foot to recline it is a round knob. Turn it one click clockwise if you can; to the "auto" position.
If the brush doesn't turn then when the machine is reclined, it needs attention to the belt and/or clutch mechanism.

How do I replace the belts on a Dyson DC04 purple

That model has a clutch unit from which the two drive belts are located. It is a technical job to strip that unit down to change the belts, so the easier solution if you have a snapped belt, is to replace the clutch unit (that comes with belts on it). A recycled one represents better value for money, and you can get one here: Dyson DC04 clutch unit.

How to change the drive belt on a dyson dc14 allergy vacuum

Hi there,

There are 2 belts on a Dyson DC14 if the Dyson has a clutch. If it has a clutch you have a knob on the machine that turns the brushbar on and off. Most of the DC14s have this.

You are far better replacing the whole clutch and its not really too har a job to do.

Fit new belt to clutch on dyson DC04

Bad news regarding all Dyson's. You can't replace just the belt your self. You have to purchase a new belt assembly which includes the gears. And it wont be cheap. I would call it a design flaw but i am sure that dyson calls it a profit scheme.

I changing the belt

Hi,

Not sure why you claim clutch belts cant be changed because they can.
The DC04 DC07 DC14 all use the same clutch unit if you cant get the belts from your local vac repair shop look on Ebay they are on there.
The special tools are torx screwdrivers & if replacing both belts you will require circlip pliers.

How to replace both belts in manual form can be found here http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/index.htm

Brushes not going round

The brushes on my dyson have stopped going round. I have checked it and they move freely by hand. The belt is intact. What could the problem be? The Hoover is about 10 to 12 years old.
My dyson is a dc04

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
One of the main problems with vacuums are that the flat belts on the vacuums stretch and should be changed every 4 to 6 months or 3 or 4 times a year – you can tell by taking off the belt or belts on the vacuums and compare them to the old belts on the vacuum the new belts will fix inside of the old belts and you will be able to see the difference on how much they have stretched – if the belt is a geared belt – they stretch as well but should be changed about one a year – the cost is not that expensive and you cleaning will improve almost double – this also applies for the Dyson DC04 and the Hoover vacuum as well – some of the Hoover vacuums have two (2) belts and they both should be changed @ the same time.
