My altec Lansing avs 500 speaker system was working fine, until I inadvertently used iobit driver updater to update the drivers. Now the speakers don't work. The speakers don't show as a device.

Remove the audio driver and then have your machine do a search for drivers...you can also do an update which should do the same thing. It should see you don't have an audio driver and will download the proper one.

Acer laptops run on the Windows operating system.
They also have built-in speakers that have a menu to change the settings.
All laptop speakers have a driver that tells the speaker how to function.
If the driver gets damaged or deleted, the speakers are rendered unusable.
Acer speaker problems usually have a driver issue that can be solved by the user.

Go to "Start," "Control Panel," "System and Security (or System and Maintenance)," "System," then "Device Manager."
Type in the Administrator password, if you are prompted to do so.
Click on "Sound, Video and Game Controllers."
Right-click the name of your Acer speakers and select "Update Driver Software."
Click on "Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software" and allow the computer to download any updates.
Reboot your Acer laptop.
Raise Speaker Sound Levels
Click on the "speaker" icon located in the lower right corner of your desktop.
Raise the volume bar all the way up to increase the sound.
Select "Mixer" to raise the other volume bars all the way up.

I have bought an acer aspire 5742g and I only have a left audio channel. No right channel (standard windows 7 running), what can I do about it? Is there a fix for the problem or is it simply built-in this...

Hi,
First thing that you got to do a test your computer. Go to Control panel and open the sound utility from there. From the Playback tab you will see there what sound card is being used by your speakers. On the bottom left you will see a button that says configure. This button will guide you through testing the sound of your computer. It the visual shows that sound is being delivered to the speakers, then you might have a problem with the speakers. To validate this, try to connect a headphone or an external speaker to your portable system. Check if it gives you the same result. Usually it will not, that means you will need to have the speakers replaced or if you know how to open your portable system and it is not in warranty anymore try to reseat the speakers first before concluding faulty speakers.

Both left and right speakers play audio for right speaker

I think you mean the left channel is out but when you use test tone, the sound comes from left and right channels through the right channel speaker. If this is case, the switching IC is malfuncting. Unit needs service
