Question about Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router

2 Answers

I'm unable to get wireless connection to the internet after i replaced a new modem. Directy connection from modem to laptop is fine. Both my laptop and PC are able to detect the wireless network but are unable to connect to the wireless connection. It will show "connecting" and then just "close" with no messages. I've resettted my router but am still unable to access the router configuration page. Previously i am able to access my router configuration page through the webpage "192.168.1.1" but after my modem replacement, i'm unable to access the page.

Disconnect all the connections from the router. connect only the computer to the port 1 on the router. check the lights on the router. Reset the router for 30 seconds . unplug the power to the router. plug it back in. wait for 1 minute.now check the IP address on the computer. Win XP = click start ==> run ==> type cmd in run box and click ok. you will see the command prompt. in the black window type ipconfig and hit enter. now you will get the IP address and the Default gateway. Default gateway will be the number of your router. This will open the roputer set up. not check the settings on the router. If you connect the modem to the router, it works. now reconfigure the router as per ISP. Click Here for more info about how to set up router

I would guess that this is a ip address problem. The router address is probably 192.168.0.1 after the reset. The router will use the modem only if the modem has the same ip address as the old one. Connect directly to the modem and note the ip address of the modem and your computer. Disconnect the modem but before you connect the router make sure that the computer is set to automatically receive an ip address and then connect the router. If you check the status of the network adaptor it will give you an ip address the router will be xxx.xxx.xxx.1. Once you have that you should be able to set up the router to use the right ip address for the modem.

I have a different router with similar problem but to fix this problem I just shut down the CPU and the router, then I waited a minute or 2 so it would reset and when I turned it back on everything woked fine. could be as easy as clicking on the repair internet connection icon so it will rest IP, but you may have already tried that. Good luck
