Kodak 5300 color ink error

Error says "COLOR INK CARTRIDGE EMPTY. REPLACE COLOR INK CARTRIDGE". I did that....the error won't clear from the printer.

I went online to Kodak's site to troubleshoot. It suggested removing and reinserting the cartridge. Did that. Error still won't clear.

Then is said to remove both ink cartridges and the print head. Clean with soft damp cloth. Let all dry and then reinsert. Did that and Error still won't clear.

I can't even turn it off unless I unplug it. I've tried that to see if it would recalibrate and of course not.

The other troubleshooting suggestion was to update the software/drivers/whatever technical term should be. I tried that and still no luck.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! I actually do LOVE the quality of my photos from this printer.

    I have the EXACT same issue. I'm finding that the Kodak support centre is USELESS. They don't answer the dang phone and they don't return emails. I would assume because they are busy fixing all the issues with this stupid printer. It's a work printer and I'm so glad I didn't buy it, however, we are a non-profit and can't afford to loose the money we paid for it! I'm starting to think that it'll make a really great paper weight, though. Yeah, the cartridges are cheap, but the printer is horrible. I'd rather pay twice or three times the amount to not have any issues at all. To actually have a printer that works!

    exact same problem and nobody EVER answers the phone on tech support. Also, on that note, I did get through for another issue about 2 months ago. After spending 45 minutes with a technician, they said they'd seek help with a higher-up and that that person would call me back the next day. Never did.

    Same problem, has anyone tried replacing the printer head yet?. I can't find one on the kodak web site, thought it may correct the problem.

    kodak easyshare 5500 is a one armed bandit from the extortionists at kodak.
    It keeps demanding you to replace the color cartridge even if you NEVER used any color ink. It seems to count total sheets printed to do this dasterdly deed (even blank pages).
    AVOID buying the KODAK piece of trash.

    it won't let you download the softwear because the printer is in error and the printer has to be on. so is their a way to reset the factory default???

    Did you try just downloading the stand alone firmware updater and running it?

    I wonder if its a problem with the ink cartridge. Possible that a set of ink cartridges got out that were programed as empty and not full. I would hate to tell you too go by another ink tank and that not solve your problem.



    Anyway try running this stand alone firmware updater and run it even if the version is the same

OK so i found some new information that should solve the problem. The version of firmware you originally had on the printer when you changed the ink cartridge was bad. There is a known issue that when you put in a new ink cartridge when the printer is in the error state "COLOR INK CARTRIDGEKodak 5300 color ink error - 2.gif EMPTY. REPLACE COLOR INK CARTRIDGE" the unit writes that value to the new ink cartridge so you will continue to have that error. So to fix your problem First Remove the ink cartridges and download and install the new Firmware. Then sadly you have to go get another new ink tank and install it.

If you can get through to kodak you should request reimburstment of some sort like a free set of ink tanks.

I love this printer. However, I just replaced the ink cartridge and had all of the problems above. I called customer support and they are sending me a new color cartridge but you can't even print off of the black one that is half full - it won't let you do anything and won't even shut off.
When on the phone with the "support" team, I could barely understand her and had to repeat everything. When I asked where she was located she said. . . EL SALVADOR. It should still print even if the color cartridge is not in or empty. Very frustrating

I had the same problems and same results with Kodak support (nil) until I told them I smelled burned wires and then they had me send back the whole printer. I recieved a new printer in less than a week. Remember first cartridge supplied with printer is NOT full. So if you try to force printer to print you could burn up printhead. printer does count cycles per cartridge and when it thinks it's empty you don't print anymore until you replace it. Cartridge is so simple to refill but it is useless until someone comes up with a chip resetter. aka: EPSON.

**** printer i have waited almost three months for Kodak to sort out my problem Print head burnt and they have messed me around since.... do not buy this printer rather donate your money to a worthy cause..

I contacted Kodak by email and eventually they suggested sending us a new print head. And it worked! So stay persistent and if they don't respond to you, tell them that you're going to return the printer to them and never buy any other Kodak products. Seemed to be the magic words.

My aio printer says color cartridge is empty and i have not printed anything in color, This is the 2nd color cartridge i have bought and never printed in color.


It seems that theres a problem On the printhead itself it doesnt recognized your Color cartridges., since you already purchased 2x the color ink and still it doens t recognized the color you need to call Kodak for printhead replacement toll free 1 800 421 6699.

Kodak 5300 shows "color ink cartridge needs replacing",even with new cartridge,and new printhead..Ink level display shows color cartridge empty,and its brand new..


Try this one
Take out the inks and printhead
Leave the cartridge door open, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the access door is open
Close the cartridge door once the cord is unplugged
Reconnect the powercord, turn on the printer, then your printer will look for your printhead "Printhead missing or not installed correctly..."
Then put everything back. make sure it will snap in to place. Then print a calibration page, then scan it. This is just over writing the error message.

Black and Color ink cartridge indicating I need to replace the ink cartridges but they are not empty. What is the problem?


It gices you a heads up warning when they get low. You will know when they get empty. The printer won't print. The color will stop when ANY of the colors run out. It protects the print head from burning out from trying to use ink that isn't there.

Pic`s wrong colors


you need to check
1) same color ink of the cartridge almost empty, change a new ink cartridge or refill the color ink (there is only one ink cartridge)
2) the cartridge ink channel dryer and constipated, take out the cartridge put the bottom surface touch down clean water (a little) 1 hr, then set back if the cartridge has enough ink.

First try to install a new cartridge as much as it is a waste of money. Sometimes it helps. If the error on the printer clears, download the newest firmware from www.kodak.com/go/5300downloads.

If that doesn't work, you will need to call Kodak AiO Tech Support at 1800 421 6699 to get a new printhead.

You need a new printhead from Kodak AiO support. After that is in and you do not have the error message anymore, download the latest firmware at www.kodak.com/go/5300downloads
