Question about Dell Dimension E510 Dual Core 2.8 Ghz (847403171179) PC Desktop
Last weekend my 2006 Dell dimension pc gave the dreaded flashing amber light of death sign.
A superficial investigation showed me that one USB port looked a little odd. I went to the web and found that the problem can be anything from damaged usb port's shorting out to mother board/power supply failure.
I rang a local pc shop on Monday and was told that they could looks at it but I would need to log the job with Dell (even though it was out of warranty. I rang Dell (India) and a very rude gentleman told me to turn on the pc and tell him what number was flashing on the front. He would not believe me when I said that there was no place for a number to flash. I described the flashing light and he got me to hold whilst he went away for four minutes. When he returned he told me the motherboard and power supply of the computer he has never seen needed replacing and he would send them to me for $600.00 (nz) if I gave him my credit card number. Alternatively he offered a serviced repair with one year warranty for $498.00 (nz) but the third option he recommended was the purchase of a new tower for $698.00 (nz). He would not give me a log in reference so I could take it to the local agent - he said they did not have one here (this is incorrect). I then rang back the local agent who said they could not repair it without the log in code. In despair I took to a local repair firm who in five minutes had diagnosed and fixed the shorting USB port and my computer was back to normal.
The Dell service was totally out of order and corrupt and I will never deal with them again.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
