Probably itz either minor case of software corruption/improper ground/cpu fan..
or major case of faulty or defective main board/ram/daughter or addon card(s)..

..plz do check the following as in order:..
the Hardware part:..
1)a)inpower on mode, open/unplug the data/vga cable of the monitorfrom cabinet..see if raster or 'osd' is appearing on the monitorscreen..if so monitor is ok..else replace the monitor and see..[notapplicable in case of laptop]..
b) in case of laptop try to getoutput from external display unit/monitor using vga port..if there'sproper display in there..the problem is probably with either the 'lcd'or 'ccfl' or 'inverter circuit'..

2) if u hv a graphics card, replace with a standby or onboard and see..[not applicable in case of laptop]..

3) unplug mains supply..pick open/remove the cmos battery..check (above +3v)..resit..

4)see ifthe ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & oroxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..or replace with astandby n see..

5) a) see if ur hdd is noisy or emitting any 'ticking' noise (like 'tuk tuk' or 'kirr kirr')..
b) or if the system is not supporting either the newly installed device or itz software/driver /firmware
if so, u need either a fresh os installation or ur hdd is likely to b replaced..

6)remove/cleandust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/shortcircuitry/excess resistance n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

7)open the CPU Heat-Sink with fan out of the socket..put some "Heat SinkCompound" (available in local electronics chip level spare market)between the cpu/processor and the CPU Heat Sink *** fan..resit/fit ittightly in position..

8)on main/mother board..see with a debugcard for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(espabove1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuitlie around atx connector..the crystal clock generator (if cpu isn'theating up)..

9) [in case of desktop] the smps itself may bdefective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v(yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg& grey~sb); -12v (blue);-5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic',orpwm switching regulator circuit..look fordefective protector-transformer/resistance(esp 4.7k)/mosfet..
check the battery n adapter [main power], in case of laptops..

the Software part:..
1)hva licensed and UPDATED antivirus installed (iprefer avg/kaspersky,remember, without updation a full version antivirusis useless)..

2) download, install n run microsoft kb890830..http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AD724AE0-E72D-4F54-9AB3-75B8EB148356&displaylang=en..

3) download n run Startup Control Panel..http://download.cnet.com/Startup-Control-Panel/3000-2094_4-10039330.html..'removeallthe unnecessary startup items from here..(if u can't find what toremove, post me/us in ur comment with all the items listed in each nevery tabs herein)..

4) remove all unnecessary software from add/remove programs..

5) download, install n run 'Advanced System Care Pro'..http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Pro/3000-2086_4-10399324.html..

6)disable the following:..
a)'AutomaticallyRestart' right click onmy computer->properties->advanced->startup nrecovery->(uncheck on the) Automatically Restart;
b)'ErrorReporting' right click on mycomputer->properties->advanced->errorreporting->disable error reporting->(uncheck on the) 'but notifyme when critical error occur'..

7) Increase the size of Virtual Memory, Initial: 1440; Maximum: 2880

if u r bot a professional, always better to seek advise from ur system admin/vendor....

Hello

Most common reasons for a PC to run slow are:

- spyware
- viruses
- hard drive has no or very little free space
- pc does not have enough memory (RAM) for programs that are running

Starting with the easiest to hardest:

Check the amount of memory your computer has (Start, Control Panel, System). Anything under 512 MB is too little. RAM prices are very low and doubling, tripling or quadrupling your RAM will make a huge difference in how fast your system will run. Go to www.crucial.com and see how much memory you can install in your PC.

Check your hard drive for free space (right click the Start button, click Explore - find the C: Drive, right click the C: Drive and click Properties). You should have at least 10% free space on your hard drive for the system to run efficiently. If you have less, you will need to get a new hard drive. New hard drives come with software to transfer all of the information from the current hard drive to the new hard drive. Just be sure to purchase a hard drive that will work with your computer.

Make sure you have virus scanning and spyware/malware scanning programs installed and updated on your computer. Run detailed scans to ensure your system is not infected.

Without seeing your pc and reviewing your hardware and setup...I would say first, Scan for viruses, spyware, adware, malware, scareware, clean out temp files and scan disk for errors, defrag and the most important part, check your memory.

Scan your system to see how much memory you have and how much it can handle:
www.crucial.com

These are the most common factors in pc slowness.

Go to www.cnet.com and download some free software to run the above mentioned scans.

The BEST advice I can give you is based on how long have you had the PC? If it is really old and you have NEVER reinstalled, then backup your data and do so. It is like spring cleaning and you will be SO HAPPY YOU DID. But remember, when you do this it will wipe out everything, data and programs and you will have to install all of this again so be well prepaird, or just hire a computer tech to do so.

This will take a lot of time to do either way and the speed of these processes will also depend on the speed of your machine.

You are only as fast as your slowest component.

Good Luck!

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

I can suggest a couple of things that will sped the computer up.

First, run a scan on the computer and make sure that there are no viruses or mal-ware. Most mal-ware, especially rogue security, will take over your computer and make it look like you are protected (even the paid anti-viruses, Trend Micro, Norton, Mcafee). I recommend downloading Kasperkiy (free trial). You must un-install your other virus protection first before installing another. kasperky catches all viruses and mal-ware quickly and runs silently in the background. It doesn't use up too much space and will not cause the computer to run slow. Allot of anti-virus programs are bloated, such as Norton, and make the computer run slow.

Next, go to the start menu and hit run. Type in msconfig in the box and hit okay. This will bring up the system configut=ration box. Click on start up tab. un check mark everything here. Basically what this is doing is stopping all programs from starting when you turn on your computer. Click ok and restart computer. When it starts back up, you will see a message box, check mark "do not show me again" and hit okay.

These two steps will dramatically increase speed of the computer.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Virus check number 1 there are some free virus checks and spyware checks spybot and avast has a good free trial use then try defraging your hard drives using the windows defrag utility also you might want to think about upgrading your ram if your running alot of intense programs or even a newer cpu and use windows 7

How can i make a really slow computer fast?

Run antivirus software, run a registry cleaner and defrag the hard drive.
Is the machine running hot? This can cause problems like: slow processing, PC freezing up and PC shutting down.
Make sure all the vents are clear of dust and the fan is working properly.

Slow pc

Mun MSCONFIG and shut off everything you don't really need to run in the background. Reboot and do a full virus scan and a full malware / spyware scan. Next, run a greigtry cleaner program. All of these will work together to speed you up but the registry cleaner will really make the difference. It all but tripled the speed of my laptop.

Slow

I would clear your cache on your computer. Also would run Disk Cleanup & Defragment. It really depends on what OS your running because Vista can slow it down running on 2 GB RAM because thats the Minimum and the best would be 4 GB. I'm running 2 GB and it does run slow at times so thats why I use classic theme instead of Vista Aero. Also, for it being slow could be spyware or a virus. Thanks, GaComputerGuy
