Question about Frigidaire FRS3R5EMB Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

My refrigerator freezes everything, despite adjusting the temp. control to the warmest setting (1). It seems as if the temp. control simply doesn't work. The freezing occurs throughout the fridge due to the low temp., but mainly at the top right side (from the top shelf blower). I have a gallon of water which is a solid block of ice on my middle door shelf.

Seabreeze is probably right . note : Seabreeze , it wasn't me on the clarification . I just overlook your solutions in the mod mode , however , when asking for a model number , that is a clarification request . I have tried to slip a few in , because I wanted to give the correct solution to the threader ,but , they were also " denied " .

Not only the thermostat needs to be considered but the adaptive defrost board and the air damper between compartments. Something happened yesterday and my solution was changed to a clarification request. Sea Breeze

My apologies I uploaded a lot of information to your post yesterday. If you would like me to continue trying let me know here or=> Here The wiring diagram shows that you have a electric controlled damper between the freezer and fresh food compartments. If damper is stuck open it will freeze items in the fresh food compartment. The wiring shows three possibilities. Air Damper motor, Adaptive Defrost Control board and the thermostats as a possibility. Try lowering the freezer temperature to see if the damper will close more to keep the cold in the freezer. If not then unplug and use a hair dryer and blow warm air through the damper to see if that will free the movement. If that does not work, contact me, Thanks, Sea Breeze

No problem AASC, I'm going to need your help also if you choose, there are just too many here not getting help and others getting wrong answers.

I am going to point out the wiring diagram and replacement parts but first I must mention this is a problem that can come from three directions. The auto damper is electrically controlled and the wiring diagram shows that it is connected to the adaptive defrost board. Also connected to the defrost control board are the thermostats(plural) if one of the three fail the whole operation comes to a halt like this. I have dug deep into this one but have not been given the voltage that should read at the air damper. But it can be checked for burnout. Let me try to gather up most of the information I had yesterday. Sometimes the page is to large to place here. Be back soon don't give up phil539..Sea Breeze

I also could be as simple as a defective thermostat, but on this model look at what everything is wired to below. You can unplug and pull each thermostat and test but the problem they could be stuck all the way open/off, all the closed/on or out of calibration.

Here is a better view=> HERE

and a view of the wiring diagram=> HERE

plil539 don't worry you have several technicians viewing and discussing this in the background. I will return with options with one of manually disconnecting the power to refrigerator and looking over these parts. The only problem is with the Adaptive defrost control board is that it does not always show problems by inspecting visually. But we can have someone check by removing the rear cover in back of freezer and OHM out the air damper motor and possibly checking the voltage coming to the damper or looking to see if frost has the damper stuck open. Here is a photo of the 241600902 Air Control Electric that can be found HERE or through clicking on Repair Clinic HERE You can also check the thermostat for the refrigerator side to see if by unplugging refrigerator power and disconnect the wires on back and see if thermostat responds to temperature changes while changing the settings and testing the rear connections with an OHM meter. The solution is not yet set until we find which of the components are at fault. A typical technician will come and switch out all and leave you the bill and I have had technicians not know all of this involved. I will return with more part numbers. and photos. Sea Breeze

Because the two thermostats go through the ADC adaptive defrost control board we need to also consider that a possibility. Part number 241508001 Click=>HERE

And below are the two thermostats part number 241586503 for the fresh food section Click=> HERE 241586503 Fresh Food Section Thermostat

The lower photo is the fresh food section thermostat. And the one below here is the freezer thermostat part number click HERE=> 5304421067 Freezer Section Thermostat After looking over all these possible reasons I recommend someone you can trust. These parts are just too expensive to replace until you find the problem. I only could wish I was there to help you. If you have more questions or need my assistance please feel free to let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

This refrigerator is the same minus on thing. The refrigerator thermostat does not go through the ADC board. Click => HERE and enter model into the search feature Model GS26HSZBC3 and because there is no change I would be focused on the freezer thermostat. It does go through the Adaptive Defrost Board part number=> 240554502 Adaptive Defrost Control

Here is a link to a wiring schematic by entering your model number and scroll on left side of screen to schematic and click on it.

You know where to find me so I here if you need You model does have the electric controlled air damper and I would check the thermostat and the damper per instructions given above with the wrong model number. Let me know if I can help, Sea Breeze

I was not able to find a manual for your model; perhaps the company has not posted going back this far. Your model seems to be available on the resale market in Australia. If your model is not from Australia, vist the following site http://www.fisherpaykel.com.au/customercare/userguide/ and in the bottom of the webpage select the country the refrigerator was purchased. verify your model number and then go to Customer Care > Find A User Guide. Use the search fields to find your User Guide; if you leave the model number blank and select rerfigertaor you wil get a selection of all the available User Guides for refrigerators.

The Fisher and Paykel site seemed to only has one User Guide for all their refrigeration model but it does not list as applicable for the N249T. See here: http://www.fisherpaykel.com//admin/pdfs//pdf_usecares/837186-Ref_Freezer-UG_NZ-AU-UK-PAC.pdf

However on page 18 it does describe the Temperature Control:

1 is for the warmest setting

7 is for the coldest setting

The Problem Solving Section on page 29 advises that when food is freezing in the refrigerator the temperature setting is not correct or food is placed directly in front of air outlets.

If the unit is not shutting off when the desired temperature is reached there may be a problem with the thermostat.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Amana AFI2538AES The refrigerator portion keeps freezing the fruits and vegetables. The chiller control is on the warmest setting and the refrigerator temp is set at 43. I have been raising every once...

Our Amana afi2538aes is doing the same thing. Had a repairman out. He called tech support at Amana. They had him adjust the "thermistors" but it is colder than ever running at 28-30degrees in the fresh food compartment despite being set at 46 degrees. Tech support also recommended installing some sort of "ice bin seal kit to take care of the problem" according to our invoice from repairman. Repairman was told that the ice bin in the fresh food compartment puts cold air out (to keep the ice frozen) which freezes the food in the fresh food compartment. I called Amana and the rep I spoke to said he couldn't find record of this being a problem with the model but tech support told our repairman "we've had a lot of problems with this happening."

Fridge of my Hotpoint FFA90 fridge-freezer freezes

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

My refrigerator keeps freezing on the refrigerator side

your damper door is frozen fully open between the refrigerator and freezer compartments and letting in too much cold air even though the temp setting is set on warmest setting, defrost it and then adjust the cold control and see if it moves again,if it freezes often the door seals may be letting in warm air from outside, condensing and freezing things up

Ice on the inside of the refrigerator

Where is the ice? Is the food freezing? The control is adjustable, because they were made to be adjusted. If it is too cold then adjust the control 1 number or letter warmer, then wait 24 hours between each adjustment for the temperature to stabilize. I dont think you need service unless you get to the warmest setting and it is still freezing. I have kept my own GE refrigerator on #1 (the warmest setting) for 12 years. Works perfectly there.

My refrigerator freezes my food solid

There are vents that allow the cold air to flow from the freezer to the fridge. If those vents become clogged with ice or fail mechanically, they can become stuck open or closed. The temp adjustment should move the damper in the vents. But if they are frozen open, then the fridge will become too cold.
