If it will detect your DVD player using any cord or slot but not your laptop, then I would suggest the laptop slot out is faulty. Try someone elses laptop to make sure the TV hasn't developed a specific machine fault.
Rudy, are you connecting to the TV with HDMI, or RCA cords? HDMI carries both picture and sound thru 1 cord, whereas RCA splits it to YELLOW RED and WHITE. The HDMI connection is automatically detected when connected to your TV. It will say"HDMI is detected, do you want to use these settings?" RCA is not automatic, and is prone for the video(YELLOW) cord to develope a bad connection. I wouls duggest first replacing the cord. They are inexpencive, and the fastest way to check your issue. I am going to include a link to a youtube video that will guide you through the steps on how to reset your video settings on your system. How To Reset PS3 Video Settings PS3
John, I've ran into this issue a couple of times myself. In most cases, there are easy fixes to the issue. #1, Does your TV have multiple HDMI inputs? They may be labeled HDMI1, or HDMI2, etc. I know this sounds strange, but many people don't realize that the signal source is important. #2, Connect the cord, from another device that you know works(laptop-monitor) to eliminate the possibility that your HDMI cord is bad. #3, (Probably most common) The PS3 is not the most stable platform when using the HDMI cord. Remember that the PS3 was one of the "pioneering" platforms using the HDMI connection. As such, the "auto-detect" feature is sometimes confused when switching between RCA inputs, and HDMI input. (Happens every time actually) To fix this, try a video reset on your PS3 system. It's fast, easy, and doesn't effect anything except the video/audio settings. I'll put in a link to get you started in that direction. It is the same with all models of PS3. Good luck! ^^ How To Reset PS3 Video Settings PS3
Plug the HDMI into laptop and T.V first then turn the laptop on, I have the same problem sometimes just doesnt read it properly if the laptop is already turned on when plugging in to HDMI. Hope this helps
Ok...little trick......ready????? Hook up your rca cord to tv....Make sure hdmi cord is not plugged in. Have your ps3 where its on standby (redlight). Push and hold your power button down for about 5-7 seconds....you should hear a beep or 2. let off button....wait a few seconds and you should be in business.....The ps3 automatically detects hdmi....but if you switch back to rca you have to reset it.....Let me know if this helps
Hello,
Using a vga cable to connect your laptop to a hdtv is very easy but the cable does not transfer the audio signal, you need another cable aswell. You need a 3.5mm jack to jack cable, one end plugs into your headphone socket on your laptop and the other end plugs into the pc audio socket at the back of your tv (usually next to where you plug in the vga plug).
Hi miracles4all:
I solved HDMI signal issue in my Optoma HD20. In my case it was the lack of contact between the HDMI cable plug male ending and the Optoma HD20 HDMI female port. My 35ft cable plug male HDMI ending was not completely "seating" in the Optoma HD20 HDMI female port. I solved the problem by purchasing a HDMI female to female coupler and adding a 3ft HDMI cable that had a slim male ending. This 3ft HDMI extension cable made better contact to the Optoma HDMI port and the projector was immediately able to detect HDMI signal. Hope this helps you... kaufmanekpr
