Titles I want to add movie titles to my DVD's. Can I do this prior to recording? Is so, how? If I must wait until the movie is copied to the DVD and auto finalized, how do I add a title

Re: Titles

You need software such as this
then you can do much more than titles to your DVD movies

if you are talking about retail movies you've purchased and not home movies, you have to rip them to your hard drive then use something like the above software

thanks for rating

Sub-titles are commonly available to be turned on/of or changed to various languages using either the equipment's menu tree, or the main menu setup, setting, options, etc. of the movie, game, or whatever you're viewing. If it's not easily found in a menu or video/viewing options (possibly audio) look for a button that is labeled 'SAP' and try that. good luck

Make a DVD+/-RW compatible for recording with a Philips DVDR3380

Sometimes you will have a used DVD+/-RW that already has titles recorded upon it but when you attempt to record another it won't let you even though you have space left at the end of the media.

This can happen if you delete title 2 when you have a totoal of 3 titles recorded it gets confused, there are several options available to you. Sadly both will erase all the titles that are on the media unless you scan the DVD titles in with TMPGEnc v4.0 Xpress prior to the full erase, this is your safest option if this can't read the DVDR format nothing will be able to.

  • Blank on a PC using ImageBurn this will lay down chosen format for you if you have a DVD+RW you must select this option etc...
  • Use the DVD3380 to do it for you follow the following 4 steps this is the only way you can do it sucessfully.
  1. Put the DVD in the tray as usual if you press <REC> you will see a no entry symbol in the bottom right-hand corner.
  2. Press <REC SOURCE> button to toggle to the desired input I use EXT2 for my SKY+ Box connected via a gold plated SCART lead.
  3. Press <REC> button and you will see the following window appear000c226.jpg
  4. Press <OK>

After the recorder re-formats the DVD+/-RW media it will be available for record again, either way it will give you what you want. when the thermometer bar gets to 100% simply press <DISC MENU> and you will see that it has been blanked to its format DVD+RW or DVD-RW depending upon the media.

What disc should be used? DVD-R or DVD+R ?

Use DVD+R,

According to the claims of the DVD Alliance, using a DVD+R (or DVD+RW) recorder will provide the following advantages over a DVD-R recorder:
  1. Instantly eject without having to wait for finalized formatting.
  2. Ability to record one DVD disc partially on PC and partially on television.
  3. Background formatting: while the disc is being formatted, you can simultaneously record on already-formatted portions of the same disc.
  4. Enhanced ability to edit filenames, movie and song titles, and playlists.
  5. 100% compatibility with all other DVD players, while still enjoying these extra recording features.

I have dubbed vcr tape to a Sony DVD-RW disc and tried playing it back through a toshiba player and it keeps coming up Bad Disk. My PC won't even recognise it. When started dubbing the screen displayed 1hr...

Did you say you used a DVD-RW disc to transfer a videotape onto? The reason your PC won't recognise that disc is because the data format on it is a different language to what PCs understand - plus an unfinalised DVD-RW won't play in other DVD players - it is usually an incompatible format.

(DVD+RW discs with titles/top menus created in video mode CAN be played on a PC DVD drive or a normal DVD player as can finalised DVD-R discs (DVD-R discs MUST be recorded and finalised in the same recorder for compatible playback). DVD-RW discs can only be viewed on the unit they were written/recorded on.

The other reason for the 'remaining space' on the disc you describe showing less than 120 minutes is due to a title recently being recorded or erased - unless you format it - the 120 minute / 4.7GB DVD-RW will not show full available space. Erasing titles on re-writable DVDs does not increase space. The same rule applies to unfinalised +R / -R discs (you cannot re-format these to get the space back once recorded - they are 'once only' writables)

I recommend you invest in some DVD-R discs and re-copy your VHS tape to that - then if you are satisfied with the result, title etc., finalise the DVD-R - it will play on any DVD player or PC with DVD support (or it should). These discs are relatively inexpensive to buy just about anywhere.

Final note: do NOT finalise the DVD-RW you recorded (I hope you haven't already done this) - simply format/erase it - re-use it for something else or keep it until you need it.

You can use any brand of DVD, just take note of the format before recording/playing.

I have a Magnavox H2160MW9 A. It has a dubbing feature and says I can copy from HDD to DVD. But when I follow the instructions "Selected Title Dubbing", The dubbing selection is grayed out. Note that I'm...

Choose Dub on remote. Choose HDD to DVD. When you are looking at your HDD Titles, move the cursor (the highlighted box, using the left/right buttons on your remote) to the title you want to Dub. Hit the OK button on your remote. Then hit the Dubbing button on your remote. If you are ready to record, move cursor down to Start Dubbing. Choose speed, then hit OK button.

I burn dvd -r and dvd+r and it will not play on it

It is possible that the disks are not finalized. You may need to configure it to auto finalize, which is off by default. It would be impossible to have more than one title on a disk if you always auto finalized. Check your manual, and finalize your disks. Many times marginal disks will play OK in the unit they were recorded on, but not so well in other players. The media (disks) could be the problem as well. On a side note, the DR410 will NOT burn DL (dual layer) disks. I hope this helps and good luck.

I do this all the time. Press Menu on your remote control. From there go to Copy then select VCR-->DVD. If you're recording from the beginning of a tape just press the Enter button. If you're recording from another place on the tape hit Play or FF to advance you to the spot you want to start recording. Stop the tape where you want to record from and hit Enter. FF to the place on the tape where you want your recording to stop. Stop the tape where you want the recording to end and hit Enter. Hit the Down Arrow on the remote control to highlight Copy All and hit Enter. Your machine will rewind to the start point and begin recording and it will stop when you get to the indicated end point. Note: If you have more than one episode/show on a VHS tape and you want separate titles for each, you have to go through this process for each title. If you have more than one start and end point for each copy command you'll just get different chapters not different titles. I hope that made sense!!! Hope this helps you out.

Hard Disk erased

First of all, Don't Record Anything else on this machine! Even though you have "deleted" items, they live on the disc still. However, anything you now record May be written over the files you have come to know and love, and that's why it's Important to try and follow this advice. After that, you can utilize an "undelete" code to restore your titles....accordianman
