SOURCE: Have a True Life 6000e

Make sure the square capacitor is not burned out or melted. Some of them had the capacitor under the rear end of the generator that has 2 screws holding it on. The other place where they put the capacitor is under the plastic cover on the main pannel. You have to take out 4 bolts and snap the plastic cover in the back of the pannel off. You would see if the cap is bad it would be melted and out of shape. You can use a electric mot capacitor 25 microfarid at 350 volts.I used to work on those generators quite a bit.

Have a 1200e true life gen.only putting out half the voltage.

I've repaired a few modern generators and have not seen a diode go bad yet, its usually a capacitor or wires rubbed through (broken off from vibration)...also if there is two circuit boards, either one could be bad or just a wire to them

We have a Valsi 5500 watt generator that isn't putting enough voltage out to run everything in out small travel trailer. It runs the lights but doesnt push out enough voltage to carry the A/C, microwave,...

How long have you had this generator?
Has the generator worked on all of these loads before?
Model 5500 is a 5500 Watt generator which could easily be 5500 watts (Peak) and not continuous.

Your AC is an inductive load.
    Your lights are resistive loads

An inductive load can cause issues when starting due to an increased current demand at start up that some generators cringe under. Do the lights flicker or are they stable? I'd say your diodes on your stator are working if you have light stability but you haven't provided nearly enough information for a detailed solution.

I'm sure you have enough voltage but you aren't getting enough current to run specific loads. How many watts is your AC? How many watts for your microwave? Both of these units demand a great deal of energy to run and when you place too much demand on your generator, it will choke it out and eventually, will cause damage to the generator. You may consider getting a beefier generator with a greater amount of wattage output.

Seeing these specs online and noting what you are trying to run, you have an undersized generator and need to get one that can produce a greater amount of running wattage (as well as peak wattage).

Since the older cars had generators removing the belt had no affect with the motor running until the Battery went dead, also the car would run without a battery because of the permenant magnets in the...

Hi, I am old enough to have worked on both systems. Now, when you remove a belt from the newer or older systems, the engine will run as long as there is enough voltage in the battery. No difference here. The generator dies not have a permanent magnet but residual magnetism in the rotating armature. It would build up voltage and would have to have the regulator control the output. The residual magnetism is a small amount and is similar to the residual magnetism that is currently used in all portable generators or to be correct portable alternators used for your 120 / 240 volt electricity. The car alternator does use a rotating field that relies on an electrical current supplied by the battery through a regulator. The vehicle will still run if the alternator is disconnected, until the battery runs low or an electrical load of sufficient current draw will cause the ignition system to drop out, thus the engine stalls. Remember the same was true of the generator systems as well. I have driven automobiles where the alternator failed and the engine shut down a few hours later. There is no difference with removing the belt or having the alternator or generator fail with the belt on, there is no output to charge the battery and keep the voltage up to run the vehicle. A generator is a device which makes electricity in a DC format. An alternator is a device which makes electricity in an AC format which can be used as AC or converted to DC. Either can have permanent magnets in the rotor. But we use regulators in most cases because with plain magnets, we cannot accurately control the output.

Honda EMS 4500 Generator - High Voltage Problem

As far as I can tell on the wiring diagram for this generator there is no voltage regulator unless it's incorporated with the auto throttle unit.
To lower the voltage you need to lower the speed of the generator engine. To do this there should be a screw on top of the engine under the tank when your facing the recoil. This screw presses on a arm that controls your governor. Turning it in (righty tighty) will increase rpms, turning it out will lower them. You should see the voltage change on the voltmeter.
