try this. put your ipod in disk mode. Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons til the apple appears. then quickly change to the Play and center buttons and hold. the ipod will show a check mark. hook up to your computer and see if it mounts. if so, click the restore button, restore your ipod and when finished it should come up easily on iTunes. this operation will wipe your ipod clean and replace the corrupt software. reload your tunes and enjoy! try a firmware update. that should fix it, if not, put to factory default *caution:this means everything will be erased off the ipod* you can put it to factory default in itunes where it shows you ipod.
