Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Dishes recently started feeling gritty after cycle is complete. I cleaned the dishwasher, ran a full cycle w/o dishes, and added JetDry, which has helped some, but problem persists. The unit occasionally quits in the rinse cycle, but hitting the button for the desired cycle restarts it immediately. How can I get clean dishes again?

a effect and completly safe product to use to clean the d/w is VINEGAR .place a cup upright (as if you were going to drink from it) in the upper rack and place about a cup of vinegar in in and run the d/w on a normal cycle
to prevent build up in the future use only a little detergent regardless of what the manual says all tech support dept. of appliance manufactures say to use about 2 tablespoons of detergent (a coffee scoop is the perfect size to measure 2 tablespoons)
in addation always use JetDry (espically if your model hasa built in dispenser) a small bottle usually last about 2 months . if you have no dispenser jetdry also makes a solid form that can hung from top rack

The dishes have a gritty residue on them after the wash cycle is complete.

First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter.

Soap residue on glasses, dishes & flatware...what can I do..I use Cascade & JetDry

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Vinegar or lemon juice
  • Gel dishwasher detergent
  1. dishwashers have a rinse aid dispenser. If your dishwasher has this dispenser, fill it up periodically and it will release the appropriate amount of rinse aid automatically at the right time during the wash cycle. This will help your dishes rinse more cleanly.
  2. Rinse aid in solid form
Some older dishwashers or basic models do not have an automatic rinse aid dispenser. In this case, you can buy rinse aid in solid form that attaches to your dishwasher rack. Solid rinse aid can be hard to find in stores because it is not commonly used, but it can be purchased online.
  3. Vinegar or lemon juice
Appliance repairmen will tell you that one of the common problems they see with dishwashers is the buildup of excess detergent. If there is too much detergent in your dishwasher, your dishes will not rinse cleanly, no matter how good the dishwasher is or how much rinse aid you use. To clean the excess detergent that has built up inside your dishwasher, put 3 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice (concentrate is fine) in the empty dishwasher and run the dishwasher through a complete cycle with no dishes. Do this twice, for two complete cycles of the empty dishwasher with only vinegar or lemon juice added. The acid in the vinegar or lemon juice will break up the detergent that has built up in your dishwasher's interior.

After you have cleaned the detergent buildup from the inside of your dishwasher, follow the steps below to keep the buildup from happening again and to help your dishes rinse cleanly and prevent residue from accumulating on the dishes.
  4. Gel dishwasher detergent
Switch to a liquid or gel dishwasher detergent. Any brand will do.
  5. Fill one compartment half full Dishwashers will effectively clean dishes with much less detergent than manufacturers often recommend. The bleach in the detergent, combined with the extremely hot water used in the dishwasher wash cycle, will clean and sanitize your dishes completely, even in small amounts, and using less detergent helps prevent buildup and residue from accumulating on your clean dishes.

Fill only one detergent compartment(the one that snaps closed) half full with gel detergent. Snap the opening closed and run your dishwasher as you normally would. Your dishes will come out sparkling clean with no buildup or residue, plus you'll save money by using less detergent!

Diswasher used to get dishes clean. now there are spots, film and food remnants on dishes after cycle completed. The dishes look awful

Check taht the detergent is getting dispensed and the water is hot and you can hear the water spraying.

ALSO refill the dispenser for the liquid sheeting such as JetDry. That is usually in the door with a twist out plug. It usually lasts 6 months or so.depending on the use.

Gritty/sandy feeling on dishes from dishwasher

You could only check the basics. Since the dishes are clean, it means they went through the wash cycle. It also means that that the holes on the washer arm are not blocked. If they were salty and dirty the wash arms would be something to check. And since they came out feeling like salt is on them its possible they didn't rinse and its also possible the dirty water didn't drain. Were your drain and fill hoses checked or did the techs just check the dish washing machine itself? Its also possible the water for rinse is not hot enough. Before the rinse cycle comes around try running the hot water at your kitchen faucet. Any other issues may be within the cycling of the machine.

Have a 2+year old LG LDF6810ST dishwasher that shows no error codes but is not cleaning like it used to. Have city water, do not leave excess food on dishes when loading, am only using powder after...

Try these things in order:

-Try to use a name brand powder, rather then a generic. Even a small box. I had similar problems with my LG dishwasher when I tried to save money by buying a generic powder. My dishes did not get clean and white marks were left behind on my stainless steel DW liner and the dishes. When you ad the powder, do not over fill the dispenser. Add less than the full dispenser cup and close it. Place some powder in that shallow square indent on the dispenser lid to help the pre-wash cycle. Also, run the water in the sink until hot water runs immediately before you start the DW.

-If, after using Electrosol or Cascade for 2 - 3 loads and your dishes do not come out clean, then I would run a load of dishes without adding the soap. Start the dishwasher and wait for it to fill and begin to wash. Open the door and add one cup of vinegar (white vinegar is fine.) Feel free to ad another cup after the first wash water drains and the second wash water enters and the DW begins the wash cycle again. Run a load of dirty dishes with the soap and check for good cleaning.

-If the problems continue, it is time to remove the filter assembly by removing the 9 silver phillips screws from the filter assembly. You will also need to remove the lower sprayer arm by pulling straight up and then out. With a flashlight, inspect the sump area that was hidden by the filter assembly, looking for any debris that has jammed into anywhere down there. Watch out for broken glass as you feel around. Reassemble and test with a load of dirty dishes.

The poor drying may be caused by not keeping the rinse aid re-filled. Check that first.

Also, these water and energy conserving dishwashers actually use the "dirt" from the dirty dishes to help clean the dishes during the first two wash cycles. Simply clear the big chunks off the dishes and put the dishes in the DW.

Please report back what you find or if you have more questions. OK?

Disdwaser leaves spots on dishes

You simply need to use a product called Jetdry for a couple of weeks until all the traces of factory solvents etc. work out of the machine. Sometimes if you have a really high concentration of particulates in your water the problem will continue and that is what the Jetdry is for. It isn't the new dishwashers problem it is the local water. One permanent solution is to hook up a water purifier/softner in order to clean the water up. Jetdry is used in many areas and is perfectly safe. Good Luck this will help.

Dishes don't get clean and don't dry

Hi reesbag

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

You're question is why the dishes don't get clean and it is not drying at all even though jetdry is full?

To begin with "jetdry" does not dry your dishes, It is a product that you can choose to use if you have a problem with spots on the clean dishes when the dishwasher is done.
Your problem is serious! If still under warranty then you're covered. If not and it has some years on it, it doesn't pay to throw good money after bad. If it came with the house it will be better in the long run to replace it. If you choose to repair, this problem doesn't lend itself to home handyman and it is likely in this case that after paying a repairman to come out you'll end up buying new anyway.
